Dr. Peter Woods giving a lecture to UPH’s civitas academicas |
A public lecture, with Dr. Peter Woods, a senior lecturer in the Department of International Business and Asian Studies, Griffith Business School, from Griffith University, was held on Tuesday, April 10th 2012. In this public lecture, he shared tips and tricks on how to publish our research to the journal. This public lecture was attended by around 20 UPH civitas academicas.
In this public lecture, Dr. Peter Woods, a recipient of the prestigious Australian University Award for Teaching Excellence for Internationalization in 2010, gave the attendances instructions on how to do research. ?Use your personal experience to inform your research. Students with relevant experience could be your research respondents?, said Peter. One of the main problems in publishing our research is about choosing the right journal for submission. ?Read the aims, mission, and scope of the journal carefully. Then choose journals that are valued in your subject area?, he continued. The researchers also should know the target audience of the journal. In preparing drafts which would be submitted to the journal, researchers should cite paper from particular journal the researchers were submitting to. The more citations the journal had, the more well-known the journal was. Usually, the editors loved paper to be likely cited a lot. ?The researchers also should ask their colleagues to comment that drafts. Get advice and be proactive?, Peter advised. ?Make sure your contribution is clear in your abstract and conclusion. Cite the reference well and check whether it is anonymous or not?, he continued. At the end of the lecture, Dr. Peter Woods also gave practical tips in doing research. The first one was in order to be focused; researchers could do small projects, which was compliance with their interest, so it would be more manageable. The second tips, the researchers should have critical minds while reading literatures, because the researchers could add them to the research topic. Another tips is conceptualizing the research findings, to make them easily understood. The last tips, the researchers should be specific while explaining their contribution in knowledge. The participants in this public lecture were excited to learn from Dr. Peter Woods. Some of them even actively asked in the Q&A session. (ft) UPH Media Relations |
