?In every semester, students have to practice to perform in concert. This concert is one of Consevatory of Music?s routine activities?, said Ridolf Hehanusa, BCM , as Dean of Convervatory of Music. ?This concert is held regularly every Christmas and Easter, and this year?s Easter concert was themed ?The Messiah??, he continued when Conservatory of Music Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) held Easter concert titled Have Mercy : St Mathew Passion Hightlights at Concert Hall UPH Tangerang (4/4/2012).

The concert, which was held in the evening, featured orchestra and choir consisted of 100 UPH students. This concert, by featuring J.S. Bach?s repertoire, told about Jesus? tale of sorrow based on the Gospel of Matthew. Ridolf revealed the purpose of this concert ? to reflect how Jesus died on the cross. Two main repertoires were Brandenburg Concerto No.3 in G Mayor and St. Mathew?s Passion.

?The main message of this concert is forgiveness from God. This theme is based on today?s situation which is full of tension. A lot of people act provokely, which cause vain reaction. Every manipulation did by human then may bring negative spirit. That is why everyone needs forgiveness from the Lord?, said Dr. Tomislav Dimov, as the orchestra conductor.

Clearly, it was not a coincidence that we were talking about the desires of the highest God in this holy week, the week of Easter preparation, which done by every Christian, and as part of UPH unity. However, the essence of this concert was about claiming back from the devils, executing justices, and protecting the weak were universal values that were received by all men?s faith. ?By performing this concert to public, we hope we could touch their heart, whoever they are, come within UPH nor outside UPH?, Tomislav said.

This concert was coordinated by UPH Choir, which was led by Director of Choir and Conductor Ms Angela July Riyanto, and UPH Symphony Orchestra, which was led by Artistic Director and Conductor, Dr. Tomislav Dimov.

Member of Conservatory of Music UPH, who were contributed in this concert were: Ms. Angela July Riyanto as soprano singer; Delima Simamora as alto singer; Mario Emanuel Imanto as tenor singer, Antonius Sugeng-bass; and Dr. Tomislav Dimov violist. All of them took part as soloist and contributed in this joint project to yield professional musical masterpiece on the stage. This project was extracurricular activity, which was really important for students? future as a musician. (by HDL Tobing )
