To be a global campus, UPH not only provides international standard facilities, but also keeps improving its academic quality. Qualified lecturers from within the country and overseas are supporting UPH to provide high quality education. For short semester in academic year 2011/2012, UPH brought in guest lecturers from USA to teach in UPH, they were Kevin Brennan from Ouachita Baptist University and Tamara Welter from Biola University.
Kevin Brennan and Tamara Welter, each taught two courses in UPH, Globalization and International Politics for Kevin, and International Journalism and New Media Technology for Tamara. ?I find it very interesting. I am impressed by how well they are able to follow my English?, Kevin said.
About the courses they taught in UPH, Kevin said that Globalization and International Politics aimed to give lesson to the students that integration really affected human life. Tamara also explained about the courses she taught. ?New Media comes with the hope to challenge students to think about new media they are already experiencing from journalistic perspective, to think about tools in a different way and getting them to begin to consider some of the theories behind new media, where there has been scholars work on that?, she explained. International Journalism course, according to Tamara, got the students to look the world in a broader way, especially from a journalist?s perspective, and taught the students about challenges they would face in this world.

As guest lecturers who came from western country, these two lecturers said that UPH students were not much different with their students in the USA. ?Their abilities are very similar. Here, some basic knowledge is in higher level. For example, they ask about geography. There are lot of students in my college are unaware where this city is at, where this country is at, so I think the students here are more knowledgeable when it comes to geography?, Kevin said.
These foreign lecturers also applied the same teaching method in UPH, as they applied in their universities in the USA. Tamara applied online method, where the students should download the class material themselves from the website she made. ?The world is going online, and so even in my international class. They have to do anything with online, and that is our world. If I do not demonstrate that, then who am I to expect them to demonstrate that, so I put my class content to the website. I tell them to resource it from there. For their final projects in International Journalism class, I require them to post the content of their project online to the wiki?, Tamara explained.
Tamara Welter get along with her students
The students also enjoyed those courses. Prisilla Chandra for instance, student who took International Journalism class with Tamara, admitted that she could follow the course well. ?Mrs. Tamara is very kind to all the students. She teaches us how a journalist should be, the challenges on becoming a journalist, not only being a journalist from Indonesia but in every country. She teaches us how we analyze a country on ruling their civilization. Her method of teaching is unique. I like it and enjoy it a lot?, Prisilla said.
Not only the students who enjoyed learning with these two guest lecturers, but these two guest lecturers also enjoyed teaching in UPH. Kevin said that he was impressed by how respectful the students here. ?They pay very close attention in the class and the way they address me, they always call me Sir, they are very respectful?, he said. Similar with Kevin, Tamara also got along really well with her students although she had just taught here for a few months. ?I had a special class section where we observed the journalistic film and we predicted and discussed it, and we did that at my apartment and it happened to be my birthday as well, so they actually brought me a rice cone with all the foods (nasi tumpeng), they just celebrated with me and it was very nice?, Tamara said.
