Creative economy might sound unfamiliar for most people. Batik, which was identical with something old-fashioned and formal, nowadays has been modified to be modern and suitable for any ocassion. That was creative economy as explained by Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia Mari Elka Pangestu, at Distinguished Guest Speaker Seminar UPH Festival 19 on Friday, August 3, 2012.
Creative industry gave added value to something. ?Distro or distribution store in Bandung for example. They produce t-shirts with unique design and limited number, like 50 pieces. This alternated t-shirts, which previously an ordinary piece, become something creative,? she explained.
Besides that, Mari Elka also talked about the importance of collaboration between creative industry and tourism. ?The existence of creative industry will encourage people to travel to the place where the creative industry exists. Tourism also supports creative economy,? she continued.
Besides Dr. Mari Elka Pangestu, there were also 2 other speakers in this seminar, they were Gita Irawan Wirjawan (Minister of Trade of Indonesia), Dahlan Iskan (Minister of State Owned Enterprise of Indonesia), and Irman Gusman (Head of DPD RI). (ft/ch)
