Art Week, an event organized by Art Department UPH, was conducted on Monday (13/8) until Wednesday (15/8). The event, which was held for the first time in 2009, aimed to introduce various students’ activities under Art Department to the new students, such as Photography, Nihon Utopia, Nusantara Dance Company, and band.

On last Monday, Art Week 2012 featured performances from Lighthouse Singer, Nusantara Dance Company, and dan demo photo session from UKM Photography. On demo photo session, members of UKM Photography showed their ability photographing the models who walked on the stage, as if they were walked on catwalk.

Not only those 3 UKM, other UKM under Art Department, like band, also featured on Art Week 2012. According t Arthur F. Sahetapy, as the Event Coordinator, through Art Week, the number of new members usually increased. “In a year, Art Week is held twice, in the beginning of new semesters. Every year, usually the number of students who join in some UKM under Art Department increases,” he said. UKM Photography for example, got 83 new registrants in this Art Week 2012.

In the UKM’s learning process, Art Department UPH provides a unique method, it is by holding Art Award. “On April 2013, we will hold Art Award. Art Award gives appreciation for UKM members who have the best works,” said Arthur F. Sahetapy.

Hopefully the holding of Art Award could encourage the UKM members to learn more, not only getting achievements in academic field, but also balance those achievements with others in non-academics one. (ft)
