This event presented a ministry politician, Dr. Jacob Tobing MPA., who had been involving in politics for 34 years, a former Indonesia Ambassador to South Korea, who also played an important role in setting the foundation of Indonesia?s political modernization.

To all UPH civitas academica, he conveyed the sigifnication of Indonesian independence, which was inseparable from previous fighters and leaders? struggle. He also said some factors that encouraged the struggle in the colonial period, such as the awareness about human?s esteem and western educational contributions. ?Cultural, tribal, language, and religious heritages made Indonesia as a modern nation, so all of them could be kept,? Jacob stressed. Therefore, issues related to races should be avoided. ?In Indonesia there is no tribal domination,? he said, reminded us.

In order to reflect the 67th Indonesia?s Independence Day, Jacob urged all UPH civitas academica to fulfill the independence by thinking critically and actively participating to contribute intellectual ideas according to our own expertise.
In the independence celebration, the participants were invited to sing national songs, such as Indonesia Raya, Indonesia Pusaka, and Bagimu Negri. The celebration was later continued by achievements giving to the winners from competitions during UPH Festival on 2-4 August 2012, participated by the new students.(rh)
