Two final projects from UPH Interior Design students got achievements from 3 categories at HDII Award 2012 In the last prestigious exhibition Desain.ID 2012, Himpunan Desainer Interior Indonesia (HDII) also held a biennial event, HDII Award 2012. HDII Award gave achievements to Indonesian interior designers who had created the best works. This competition was participated by professionals and students. For professional participants, there were five categories; they were Residential category, Commercial category, Institutional category, Healthcare Category, and Hospitality category. For student participants, there were also five categories; they are Most Green, Most Functional, Most Ethnic, Most Favorite, and Most Innovative.
Two final projects from UPH Interior Design students got achievements from 3 categories; they were Most Green, Most Functional, and Most Ethnic. Trisna Waty, with her Takara Golf Resort, won Most Green category and Most Functional category. Paulus Whanarahardja, a lecture at UPH Interior Design Department, explained about the Most Green category. ?Let say we look it from environmental point of view, Most Green designs have to be ergonomic, not only make the user feel comfortable, but it also have to concern about the human-traffic management. This golf course, for instance, have a good air circulation, so it does not need to use an air conditioner. Therefore if it is ?Most Green?, it must be ?Most Functional?,? he explained.

Meanwhile, Indrawati, with her final project Indra Puri?s Hotel in Bandar Lampung, became the best work for Most Ethnic category. ?This hotel uses Lampung?s cultural concept. We want to create a hotel with interior ambience has meanings based on the history and culture of Lampung, therefore we prepare the layout based on those meanings,? Elaine Steffany as Indrawaty?s advisor explained.

All of the judges who involved in this award were professionals in interior design and they came from overseas. They were Jooyun Kim (President of Korean Society of Interior Design), Roonie Choong (Executive Board of Malaysian Institute of Interior Design), and Horace Pan (Executive Board of International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers). The judging system was really objective, where the judges only judged based on the printed works that were sent to the organizer, and they did not meet with the participants.
Hopefully those newly achieved awards could motivate other students to create other works innovatively, so Indonesia could prove its designers? ability, which have to be recognized in global competition. (ft)
