UPH held a seminar entitled ?The Media Industry and Students of the 21st Century? on Wednesday. April 10, 2013. This seminar featured Sachin Gopalan ? CEO of Berita Satu Media Holdings as the speaker and moderated by John Riady, who is UPH?s Executive Dean of Business School, Law School and School of Government and Global Affairs. The seminar was opened with a presentation about the current condition of the media. Sachin explained that, with the fast progress of technology, many people become to develop some habits, such as instant gratification, demand for fast connectivity, and individualism where every person want to be distinct. Seeing these habits, the media also begin to adjust with the demands. Sachin added, BeritaSatu also adjusted their news with the current developed habit, for example, by publishing news through digital media, providing the fastest and most accurate news, as well as news that are different with the other media. The digital development does not bring changes, but also worries to some people that the print media will go extinct. Sachin denied that worries because according to him, print media will always adapt so it will not go extinct as one of the mass media that is needed by the society. He cited the adaptation method that has been done by BeritaSatu media which is by not providing news that has the same perspective with the other media, but by providing news that came from the analysis of the probable condition or future prediction of the current news.
