The alumni-user award-receiver ? Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners (HHP) law firm gave a brief remark at the 17th anniversary of Fakultas Hukum Universitas Pelita Harapan ? FH UPH (UPH Faculty of Law). In his remark, he expressed his gratitude, particularly to his UPH lecturers. ?As a law firm and from my personal self, we perceive ourselves as a partner of law education,? said Erwandi Hendarta, HHP law firm representatives. For him, lecturers are the main gate to educate law students with various materials to enter the law firm. ?The lecturers are the one who educate students to be discipline, have the skills and passion to be a lawyer,? Erwandi said.
Erwandi also agree with John Riady?s opinion in his scientific oration about the law education by adding, ?It is time for Indonesia to look further into the future.? This matter is related to Indonesia that is a democratic country; law has a very important role. ?Law becomes the pillar of democracy,? he said firmly. Therefore, he hoped that the faculties of law in Indonesia could have the sense of purpose and passion to educate their students.
As a member of Baker & McKenzie International, Hadinoto & Partners law firm is always committed to welcome fresh graduate to their firm. Fresh graduate will receive more preparation so that they could be lawyers who are not only skillful in the fields but also honest and clean from bribery. ?A good business does not need corruption and bribery. Business does not have to be done with incorrect methods,? said Erwandi. He also impart more information that even though HHP is located in Indonesia, but the transaction is on international level. ?You?re International lawyer, it means you have International mindset, even though you?re here in Jakarta,? he said to his fellow HHP members.
Erwandi also expanded the perception towards law firm. ?We do not perceive law as a mere transaction, but also as a social agent of change,? he explained. Thus, Erwandi stated that he really supports UPH that not only teaching the applied law in Indonesia, but also introducing the international law system. Moreover, he also concurred with UPH decision to combine the three faculties ? Faculty of Economy, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Social Sciences. John Riady ? as the executive dean of the three faculties ? explained that lawyer students must be allowed to take classes from either Faculty of Law or Social Sciences, ?So that lawyer could have a holistic mindset, and when the times come for them to face a transaction, they have the knowledge from every possible aspects,? explained John.
Erwandi also expected that FH UPH could thrive further so that in the upcoming years, the faculty will be more mature and have a higher qualification. (ym) |
