As an education institution that is based on holistic education system, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) put the whole intellectual growth ? either in intelligences, emotions, socials, physicals, arts, creativities, or spirituals ? as the main concern in their learning environment. Thus, the concept of holistic education can be clearly felt in UPH campus; from the facilities, security system, to its green surroundings. All UPH facilities are constructed for supporting the purpose of holistic education. This means that the facilities here are not only focusing on science and technology knowledge but also paying attention to the art and sport growth.
Undoubtedly, holistic education is not only given to UPH students. All of UPH staff as well as external parties that cooperate with UPH will also experience holistic education. One of such external parties is Multistrada Arah Sarana (MASA) Tbk. that organize a program named A Million Soccer Balls for Indonesia Children Movement. In this movement, MASA also works together with Kick Andy Foundation. UPH support this program by facilitating the venue for training camp. In this training camp, 32 children, selected from soccer school that are in a less fortunate condition, will gather and do their training at Universitas Pelita Harapan, Karawaci, Tangerang.
These 32 children, aged 11 to 16 years and come from all over Indonesia, will join in the training by Manchester United Soccer School for 5 days, from January 21 to January 25, 2014. The planned training will cover physical activity, skill development as well as building strategy for attacking and defense. Michal Bennet and Jamie Fitzpatrick will watch over their progress during the training camp.
A Million Soccer Ball Program purpose is not to search for professional-players-to-be but to facilitate the children to learn positive life values, to give chance exploring the outside world and to help them in pursuing their dream. The said vision is inspired from the concept of a ball that is round and always keeps rolling on, just like life does.
?Through soccer, children can pursue their dream and incite their spirit to strive a better future for themselves, so that they can grow as an individual that bring boon not only for their own self but also to their surroundings,? said M.Zein Saleh, Senior Marketing Manager of PT Multistrada Arah Sarana Tbk.
During their training camp at UPH, these children will stay at UPH students? dormitory that has international standards. Aside from having to follow the rules just like UPH students that also stay in the dormitory, the children will have access to use UPH sport facilities such as swimming pool, basketball court, volley court, futsal field and fitness center.
This program is one of many social service efforts from UPH. Hopefully, by participating in this training camp, the 32 children will be more motivated to purse their dream. (rh)
