A Million Soccer Balls Program that took place at UPH from January 21 to January 25, 2014 was closed on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 03.00 p.m. PT Multistrada Arah Sarana and Kick Andy Foundation, as the program organizers, closed the 5 days training camp together with the 32 children as the program participants, Teacher College Soccer Team as UPH representative, Budhi T. Yuwono as UPH Vice Rector and the journalists. The closing ceremony started with awarding ceremony to the 32 children who had finished the training and special awards for specific categories i.e. Best Attitude, Skill Challenge Winner, and Most Valuable Player (MVP) were also bestowed.
From these three special awards, one of the achievers comes from Lentera Harapan School, Curug. He is Richard Ferdinan, 12 year old, who won the award Best Attitude. ?This award is given for his attitude during the training camp. He is friendly, ready to help his friends, and discipline,? Coach Michal commented.
According to Budi Yuwono, Richard is a person who always looks full-spirited. ?He has dreams and strong aspirations to join in this program. In the beginning, he did not have the expectation to attain the privilege of going to MUFC. But I am very glad, that if Richard is chosen, it will be a definite proof that the moral and ethical education taught by Lentera Harapan School is a fruitful one. Besides education from school, parents and family also have the roles to develop Richard?s characters and attitudes,? Budhi explained.
Moreover, Budhi added that this training event is a form of support by UPH for the Indonesia young generation growth. ?We hope that all of the participants have wonderful experiences, more insight on life values. Not to mention that they come from less fortunate background, so we are really happy to have the opportunities to work together,? Budhi said.
On the other hand, Manchester United Soccer Schools (MUSS) coach, Michael Bennet stated that what the local tires producer and Kick Andy Foundation had organized in this program is the first of its kind in the world. He also added that the event was greatly supported with the facilities availability at UPH.
Besides coaching the children, this program gave many precious lessons such as daily life values, pluralisms, socialisms, nationalisms, honesty, disciplines, team works, and sportsmanship.
?This kind of activity is the first to be held in the world and it also marks my first visit to Indonesia. I hope that the children will practice the values that we have taught such as the values of hard work, team work and self-confidence in the pursuit of their dreams,? Michael stated.
6 children had been chosen to visit the pride of Manchester United Football Club, the Old Trafford Stadium or well-known with the name Theater of Dreams. The 6 children were chosen based on their achievements and attitudes during the training session and had passed the selection process.
UPH felt honored to have the opportunity to support ?A Million Ball Movement? Charity program and is looking forward for another projects that bring positive impacts.
