UPH Student Executive Board held an Innovation Festival (iFest) event of 2014, this event was to develop the potency in both innovation and entrepreneurship among students to drive the cycle of national economic. This event included two main activities, which are a seminar about entreprenurship on 19th – 20th March 2014 in UPH Campus, and an exhibition of 65 local brands owned by Indonesian young entreprenur on 21st – 23rd March 2014 at 5th Floor in West Mall of Grand Indonesia.
The first seminar was held on Wednesday 19th March, 2014 with the theme of “Grow Your Passion into Innovation” which was attended by young entreprenurs of The Lab, Bluesville, and Voyej. These young entreprenurs shared their experiences in making their dreams into reality through an inovative enterprise. |

Choky Sitohang introduced his owned businesses, a bakery shop that sells healthy bread made from natural ingredients which was inspired by a japanese traditional bakery recipee, Hoshi Bread, and a school that focuses on teaching public speaking practices, Choky Sitohang Speaking Incorporation (CHOSSI).
He admitted that he never thought he would be an entreprenur until he dared to enter a business industry that suits to his passion. According to Choky, never say never have time to start a business. Although, he is a very busy person in an entertainment industry, but he still managed to find someone that has time to assist him in starting a business. Therefore in 2009, he dared himself to join PT. Cahaya Fujiyama Culinary.
Hoshi Bread has a concept of making their bread in the morning which are made by natural ingredients, therefore the age of the bread itself is not very long. For the segmentation of the bread itself is also not very broad which makes Hoshi has to compete with other well known brand of bakery shops. However, Hoshi Bread still maintain to be consistent with its healthy and natural ingredients.
In 2012, Choky also have the passion in teaching, then he established a public speaking school where he also becomes the lecture to teach based on his expriences in public speaking, jurnalistic, and broadcasting industries since 1999. Until now CHOSSI still focuses on giving training in the institution, seminar, and workshop. |

He also explained a mindset that every entreprenurs should have, is always take any possible opportunity that comes ahead, being resourceful or being available when needed, being creative, having a visionary, being an independent thinker where an entreprenur has to be confident in speaking out their opinion and accepting any critics toward them, being a hard worker, being optimist, being an innovator where an entreprenur can turn something ordinary into extraordinary, being a risk taker, and also being a leader.
Then he stated the five key succeses that he always holds on to, which are always be diligent, always rely on God, always maintain and develop your own skills, always be active, make an impact by not making a brenchmark out of property but giving a blessing to other people instead, as well as be consistent in your innovation.
In the question and answer session, there was a student asking about tips how to start a business with other partner, Choky said that we have to find a business partner with the same mindset, vision, passion in order to start a business with a partner. Last session of the seminar was followed by an appreciation symbol given by iFest committee to Choky Sitohang and a photo session as well. (ca/au) |
