UPH?s Faculty of Medicine held the first 3D Neusorgeri class on Friday, October 24, 2014. This lecture is to discuss the handling operation in patients with tumors in 3-dimensional format. There are three cases presented in this study. Cases of patients with arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in the head, cases of neurinoma tumors Cranio-cervical and cases of thoracic tumors neurinoma at 2-3 in the legs. All three are cases handled directly by the Siloam Hospital team of doctors led by J. Prof.DR.dr.Eka Wahjoepramono, Sp. BS, which is also the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine UPH.

Lecture material is made specifically with using technology 3D. The lecture?s 1 hour duration is held in two sessions with a capacity of 60 people per session. The lecture is intended not only for students but also professors and leaders of UPH. Medical faculty learning method with 3D material is still rare in Indonesia. At the session, Prof. Eka provide a detailed and complete description, so that students can follow as if they are the witnesses in the operating room.

The lecture is given as a stimulus for students to encourage their interest and seriousness to dig further lessons given in class. “I want students to learn not forced to, but because there is interest. With this system the student will study in his laboratory and develop him self. In principle, we seek methods for effective learning. In overseas Universities, this method is given to speciallist students, but in UPH we provide this method for S1 students. This shows the seriousness of UPH in medical education by continuing to make breakthroughs, ” said Prof Eka.

This method is an innovation made by UPH?s Medical Faculty to attract students to come to the lab and do research. ?We hoped that the students are more interested and the knowledge can easily be understood by students. We also invites students to actively explore UPH?s Medical Faculty information about the material they get in the classroom,? Prof. Eka added.

Rector, who also attend the lecture said, this course is very interesting and is a great innovation to help students grasp the lesson more easily. The idea to make these materials need to be supported and students are expected to improve the quality of UPH?s Medical Faculty.

Prof. Eka also reported to the Rector the achievements of UPH graduates who work as professional doctors abroad. Their quality is not less than foreign doctors both in terms of knowledge, willingness to grow and durability as well as hardworking mentality. They exist in Germany and some in Manila.

“In the future, I hope UPH?s Medical Faculty can improve more sophisticated tools to support the learning process. In other countries this method has been done a long time and I knew it in 7 years ago when I was in the US. And I?m thinking to do the same for students at UPH. This method can be applied also in other faculties in UPH. If this material is given in overseas for the master level, but is given to students S1 in UPH, “said Prof. Eka.

At the end of the session, he was once again motivated the students to actively learn and equip themselves with soft skills that support the profession in the future. Do not settle for just being a graduate of an appropriate standard, but must strive to be above average. (rh/gs)
