The ability to be a leader needs to be owned by students since their school year. The sooner the better becauseit could prepare the students to be more disciplined in life, to have better characters, and to be able to lead others in the organization. As a form of concern on these needs, UPH Student Consultant division along with UPH Student Executive Board regularly hold a High School Leadership In-House Training (HS-LIT) program to provide opportunities for high school students to develop leadership characters. This activity that carried the theme “Sic Parvis Magna: Greatness Comes from Small Beginning” lasted for three days and two nights, on January 30th until February 1st, 2015, followed by 130 participants from various schools in Greater Jakarta.
In HS-LIT 2015, participants will receive training in basic leadership through activities such as interactive seminars and simulations, team building games, talent night, presentation and sharing of HS-LIT alumni.
One of the interactive seminar session which was attended by participants was the ‘work as a team’ seminar, which was presented by Hartley J. Taslim, Section Head Student Organization UPH. In this seminar, how to work in a team was explained, as well as the personality and character required when working in a team, how to search for members of the team and how to be a good leader in a team. Participants actively participate in this interactive seminar where many of them also gave their opinions and high-quality questions. This activity received a great response from the participants, here are some testimonials from the participants of HS-LIT 2015:
“From the very first day,I gain new and interesting lessons that I have never received elsewhere, lessons that are rarely received by my other friends. We learn to be a good leader, to know ourselves, to start everything from small things, to do everything whole-heartedly and to not be concerned with our own ego. I totally agree that this event should be re-established in the future, so that the next batch can also feel that we should be leaders for a new Indonesian “
Ezra Abidnego, SMA Pahoa Science and Technology Head of Division
“I am very motivated by this event. I can understand that being a leader, we must be able to lead ourselves and others. I’m sure there are a lot of other friends who feel that HS-LIT is very helpful to guide in understanding the character needed to become a leader ?
Josephine Imanuel, SMA Tunas Bangsa Student Organization Chairman
“HS LIT is very good, especially for children aged 17-18 years, where we learn to develop themselves. Especially on how to be a good leader, organize and work in teams. I hope in the next year, this event could be established again in order to grow new leaders in Indonesia who will cooperate in building a better Indonesia “
