UPH welcomed 37 grade twelve students and 5 teachers from SMA Global Mandiri ? Cibubur. Held on 20 March, 2015, the Open House took the form of a presentation about UPH and a campus tour. During their visit, the students soaked in general knowledge about the programs offered at UPH as well as enjoying the chance to see several facilities on campus. Students also had a special opportunity to meet face-to-face with the Dean of Social and Political Science, Prof. Aleksius Jemadu, Ph.D., and Jap Lucy, M.Sc, a lecturer in Biotechnology.

Prof. Aleksius introduced the students to a new program in Political Science, featuring a concentration on Politics and Business. This concentration is quite new, yet highly relevant to current issues. ?One particularly hot issue is the readiness of Indonesia as we approach the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2015, where foreign investors will surely need information regarding natural resources, human capital, and most importantly, the political and economic conditions in Indonesia. So, we believe this academic concentration will enable our graduates to be highly skilled in giving advice to future investors,? explained Aleksius.

Meanwhile, the Biotechnology major was represented by Jap Lucy, M.Sc, who delivered a concise presentation about how important it is to study biotechnology in order to elevate the quality of life for humans and other creatures. She also emphasized that a being a researcher does not always mean you become a ?geek or lame person?, rather, it will give benefit to the lives of others.

The students from SMA Global Mandiri were quite interested in the programs offered by UPH. Valerian Nugraha, grade 12, SMA Global Mandiri, who has already been accepted as a prospective student of Industrial Engineering at UPH said, ?UPH was the only one I could think of. Not just for the state-of-the-art facilities, but also because my family, especially my sister, truly support and even recommend me to choose UPH.?

SMA Global Mandiri students really enjoyed the Open House

This Open House hopefully could offer more choices for the students to determine the right major that matches their interests. Rifqi Ludi Baihaqi, S.Pd., School Counselor of SMA Global Mandiri, stated this visit is a regular school program so that the students will not only consider the Public Universities, but also consider the Private Universities which now, in fact, are well-managed. UPH is one of the high quality Private Universities that deserves to be visited. (el)
