For the first time since its establishment in 2013, Faculty of Science and Technology (FaST) UPH which is a merger of 3 faculties such as Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Faculty of Design and Engineering Planning, conducted a national seminar for faculty level. This seminar delivered a topic of ?The Role of Science, Engineering, and Technology for Sustainable Development?. This seminar aimed to accomodate the academicians as the part of society to be able to identify, plan, build, and optimize the environments independently which could give positive impacts to the whole aspects of mankind.
This seminar was held for two days on 6-7 May 2015 by presenting the keynote speakers who are policy makers and experts. The first day was officially opened by FaST Dean, Prof. Dr. Manlian Ronald A. Simanjuntak and also presented three keynote speakers which are the Head of Research and Development of Minister of Environment and Forestry Republic of Indonesia, Prof. DR. Ir. San Afri Awang, M.Sc, Minister of Home Affairs, Tjahjo Kumolo and Dr. Masahiro Oikawa, Opotohub Co. Ltd. Japan.
This national seminar invited 66 researcher from 26 universities from all around Indonesia. The 250 participants were from FaST students and others from various universities such as Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Parahyangan, Universitas Trisakti, Universitas Andalas, Universitas Diponegoro, and others. Also attended this event, President of UPH, Raymond Liu and Rector of UPH, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak.
After the first session with keynote speakers, the participants were divided into 10 groups to participate into the presentation session from the researchers. Hopefully, this seminar would generate various studies even strategic recommendations align with the programs of the new Kabinet Kerja, in order to place the same level of position as Negara Kesatuan Republic Indonesia and even be able to compete with other nations worldwide. This scientific events also encouraged positively the Faculty of Science & Technology to be a pioneer, motivator and role model of academic quality development, Lecturers? Academic Hierarchy enhancement, as well as becoming a faculty model for Indonesians to be interested in this topic in the future. (rh)
