School plays role not only in providing knowledge but also building students? character and identity. Furthermore, teachers need to help the students in developing all aspects of character and environment. In this case, the presence of a student counselor is needed. To play the role well, a student counselor needs to acknowledge the foundation, concept, procedure, and practice of counseling guidance.

As a partner in education, UPH comprehends about the importance of counseling teacher?s role in preparing the students who will proceed to the higher education. For that concern, UPH held High School Counselor Gathering that is intended to give the counselors training program related to their role in school.

This event was held for three days, June 18-20, 2015, at UPH campus, Karawaci, Tangerang. Approximately, there were 19 participants from various high schools including from Manado, Pontianak, Singkawang, Solo, Jogja, Samarinda, Pekan Baru, and couple of other cities.

The first day began with ?Probing Skill in Counseling? session delivered by Ellen Patricia, MA., from Yayasan Busur Emas, a children training, growing, and developing institution. On this session, the teachers were given knowledge about identifying specific issue in specific problem. Ellen shared that the probing skill is really important for clarifying a problem, gathering information, broadening mindset, and directing to possible action. But the collected information needs to be relevant with the main problem. This is very essential to make a precise solution.

On the second day, the teachers were having a trip to visit several tourism objects in Jakarta. The teachers used this opportunity to make connections with UPH team and the other participants.

HOPE Counseling UPH counselor, Elisabeth Mailool, MTh., shared a workshop themed ?Effective Counseling in School? on the third day. Elisabeth said that a counseling is not solely about giving advice. It is a therapy through talking to each other in order to understand a problem. Thus, in a counseling, a counselor needs to deeply understand the counselee. There are three purposes of counseling by Elisabeth which are, feel your self, know your self, and control your self. At the end of the session, the participants were trained about basic counseling skill. The participants were very interested and proactive in doing the assignments.

High School Counselor Gathering gave a very helpful impact to the participants. They certainly look forward to participate on the next event with other counseling-related topics. (nn)
