On May 23-July 2, 2015, UPH Architecture in collaboration with Aboday, an architecture agency, hosted yearly Architecture National Competition themed ?Simpul?. This is the third year of UPH hosting the event. Previously, on 2013, the competition theme was ?Pasar dan Ruang Pertunjukan?, while on 2014, the theme was ?Rimpang?.

The concept of ?Simpul? started from the complexity of city infrastructures resulted from the variety of citizens? needs and activities. Route ?Simpul? as the essential point in city infrastructure surely invites the increase in activity concentration with the overlapping various needs. ?Simpul? can be the meeting point, transition room, destination point, steering point, connecting point, distribution point, and others. ?Simpul? is the place where two or more networks meet.

The specialty of route ?Simpul? as a strategic location and critical in city structure is very potential to be explored from architecture glasses. The problem solving is not solely the role of infrastructure but also architecture.

In this year?s competition, the participants were expected to be critical in analyzing the problem of city infrastructure in their environments, then, propose the answer of the problem through design of pedestrian route from the selected problem case.

There were four judges invited to judge the participants? creation in answering the problem case, Han Awal, Kevin Mark Low, Johansen and Defry Ardianta. From the total of 27 creations submitted, the judges selected the top 10, and invited top 5 selected to present in Jakarta. The final judgment was started from 2pm to 7pm WIB on July 2, 2015, at UPH.
