UPH Conservatory of Music (CoM) welcomed Nathan Olson and Julianne Olson, two professional vocalists from United States, to teach Vocal Concentration in Conservatory of Music. Both as the professional vocalists have the experience in teaching vocals at several universities in United States and other countries. Nathan will be responsible as the coordinator of Classical Performance and teach Voice and Trumpet. While Julianne is trusted as the coordinator of Contemporary Performance and Classical Performance specifically in Voice and Performance Practice Evaluation.

Both of the lecturers are very enthusiastic in sharing their duties in UPH CoM. In this new semester first meetings, Nathan has already seen potentials in the students. ?The students here have great amount of potentials, many big hearts, and the enthusiasm about singing and music. It takes a strong basic foundation of vocal technique and discipline to develop their talents,? Nathan said. According to Julianne, the raw talents, emotions, ideas, and passions are things that cannot be taught. ?They have it all from the start. It is basically theirs,? Julianne said.

At the beginning of their arrival, both of the lecturers were invited to enliven UPH Festival 22 through performance of their collaboration in Gala Concert, on August 20, 2015, at UPH Grand Chapel. Uniquely, they were requested to sing Indonesia?s national anthem ?Tanah Airku Indonesia? in Bahasa. The performance received big applause from the audience, including the head of Kepolisian Republik Indonesia and were witnessed by thousands of audiences. For both of them, that was a very exciting experience.

Julianne and Nathan hoped to give contribution by focusing to build the heart, character, integrity, hard work, professionalism, and the art of students. Both of them are focusing on the development of raw talents to be healthier and more finish ones. ?I hope to increase the standard of excellence in Conservatory of Music. Hopefully the Voice major can be stronger, not only the violin and piano. And the most important thing is not the vocal excellence, but how the students can sing from their hearts and be the best version of their selves. It is very exciting for me as a vocal lecturer to listen to unique vocals and to teach every student to give their best,? Nathan said. Julianne added by declaring her hope that Conservatory of Music can work better and many things can be achieved in a timely manner. (nn)
