Once again, UPH Accounting students won an achievement in international competition ?2015 CPA Australia Accounting Competition?. Success in winning the third place in 2014, this year, August 29, 2015, with a different team, UPH Accounting won the second place. The annual event has been held three times by CPA Australia representative in Indonesia. CPA Australia is one of the global Professional Accounting Bodies with more than 150,000 employees in 121 countries, and 25,000 members of senior management. CPA is the label to a professional in finance, accounting, and business with certain qualifications. Being a CPA is the sign that someone has a high professional competency in accounting.
The competition aims to motivate the accounting students that have the capabilities, achievements, and willingness to build career in global corporates, to maxi maze themselves to be professionals in accounting and finance. The competition involved universities and business schools in Indonesia. Under the guidance of lecturer guardian, especially Mrs. Hanna S.E., M.M., Head of Accounting Lab, UPH Accounting sent 3 teams to join the competition, and finally, 1 team consisted of Chelsea (Accounting 2013), Eric Tjandra (Accounting 2013), and Monica Wangsaputra (Double Degree Informatics and Accounting 2012) secured the second place.
The material of competition covers Financial Accounting, Accounting Information System, Cost Accounting, Finance Management, Auditing, International Accounting, Government/Public Accounting, and other global accounting issues. The elimination round was divided into two rounds; get point race and bonus round. In those two rounds, 40 participants from 19 universities collected as much point as they could to be selected as 5 best teams to proceed to the Final Round. UPH successfully advanced to Final Round conceited the other 35 participants, with Universitas Indonesia (FEB UI), Mercu Buana, Atmajaya Yogyakarta, and STIE YAI. Furthermore, in the Final Round, the participants were given advanced accounting cases to solve. The participants discussed the cases given for two minutes and presented the answer in 10 minutes.
The winner was judged by the answer precision, teamwork, and answer completeness. The judges in competition were the members of CPA Australia and economy professionals, such as Sahat Simarmata, Vice President at Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk., Paiman Chen, Associate member of CPA Australia, Wawat Sutanto, Managing Partner of BDO Indonesia KAP Tanubrata Sutanto Fahmi & Rekan dan Catherine Patinah, Finance Director at SC Johnson.
Three teams emerged as the winners, which were Universitas Indonesia as the first place, UPH as the second place, and Mercu Buana as the third place. UPH team brought home the prize of 49 million Rupiah in a form of CPA Australia scholarship and MAP shopping voucher.
According to Monica Wang, actually they joined the competition by the motivation of the lecturer, ?We are blessed to be part of Accounting Lab assistants, so that we always can be the first in accessing information about competition. In addition, the lecturers and head of Lab Assistant also motivated us to develop and add more knowledge,? she said. Monica and team also motivated the UPH students, especially UPH Accounting students to be more active in participating in the department, such as becoming lab assistant, HMJA member, and joining professional competitions that can give them experience and global knowledge.
