UPH emerged as the champion of the Asia-Pacific Regional Round of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Moot held in Korea between 19 to 21 August 2015. The FDI Moot is a simulation of the investor-state dispute settlement system based on Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs) drawn between countries for the purpose of protecting and promoting investments. The international investment law competition was held by Austria?s Center for International Legal Studies in conjunction with Korean Commercial Arbitration Board and sponsored by Korean law firms and a number of global law firms such as Baker & McKenzie; Quinn Emanuel, Urquhart & Sullivan; Herbert Smith Freehills.
FDI Moot 2015 was the seventh time of the competition being held. And the Moot Team of UPH Faculty of Law has just participated two times. The UPH FDI Moot team, which consisted of Nathania Carrisa Hendarta (FH UPH 2012), Nadya Andyrasari Mulya (FH UPH 2013), Charvia Tjhai (FH UPH 2013), Febrianus Josua Gantan (FH UPH 2014) and Amelia Pandunata (FH UPH 2013), clinched the first-place position by consistently outperforming other teams from countries such as Hong Kong (University of Hong Kong), South Korea (Konkuk University), Malaysia (Universiti Teknologi MARA), Czech Republic (Masaryk University) and the Philippines (Far Eastern University ? Institute of Law) during the competition. The UPH FDI Moot team then proceeded to the coveted Final Round, before edging out Yonsei Law School from South Korea and seizing the Champion title. On top of the Champion title, UPH also achieved the Best Respondent Brief Award as well as the Best Orator of the Final Round Award for Nadya Andyrasari Mulya. The team?s achievement this year eclipsed that of last year?s team, which secured the 2ndrunner-up position in the competition. Indeed, the Team?s success cannot be separated from the guidance from the coach Jessica Los Banos and last year?s FDI Moot Competitors as advisors. Further, the team?s victory in the Asia-Pacific Regional Round entitles it to advance to the Global Final Round that will be held in King?s College London, UK, from the 29thOctober to the 1stof November 2015.
