On September 12, 2015, UPH students had successfully obtained another achievement on an international competition, this time it comes from the Department of International Relation (HI) of UPH. They had successfully achieved several awards at the Indonesia Model United Nations 2015. Indonesia Model United Nations (MUN) is the biggest international scale competition in Indonesia. This year, this event was held for four days, from 8-12 September 2015 at Universias Indonesia (UI).

UPH International Relation team consisted of 2012 students, Yuri Nurrahim,  2013 student, M. Raditya Nauva and 2014 students, Calvin Khoe, Glady Fabiola, Agung Ngurah Surya Raditya and Raditya Susanto Rahim. Acting as French delegation and by winning over many different committees on this competition, UPH HI team successfully achieved the Best Delegation Award in Indonesia Model United Nations, surpassing 400 other delegates, who came from various countries, such as Russia, Scotland, Philippine, Indonesia and many more. Moreover, there were other individual achievements from several team members, such as Calvin Khoe as the Best Delegate for UNESCO committee, Galdy Febiola, as the Most Outstanding Delegate for Social Humanitarian Cultural committee and Yuri Nurahim as the Most Outstanding Delegate for Economic and Financial Committee General Assembly committee. Some results from MUN trials would also be given to UN and if it meets the criteria, there is a possibility that the content might be adopted and be implemented all over the countries.

Calvin said that UPH International Relation students have actively participated in various Model United Nations Competitions, both on national and international scale since 2009, but had ever experienced vacuum, since 2013-2014 for national competitions. The vacuum happened due to the absence of students who had the interest in joining competition. ?During the last nine months, we had gathered a number of people and even the seniors, to reactivate the spirit of Model United Nation amongst students. We have also been joining several competitions, starting from the small ones until the biggest one of all, which is the Model United Nations. We had witnessed the result of our hard work,? said Calvin.

Calvin and his team will continue to join the international Model United Nations competition, next year in Rome and America. According to Calvin and his team, Model United Nations is an asset as well as the bridge for International Relations students from university to the professional world in the future, where the experience from joining this competition will eventually help them in being a diplomat who mastered their own filed. Thus, to ensure that this spirit was shared to the other students, Calvin and team created a special organization for a MUN class, where students can learn how to be a delegation of a country, understanding the social, economic, cultural and political condition of a country and how to initiate the best solution for a particular country. They also suggested that the Faculty should make this MUN class a part of the curriculum. Calvin and his team also hopes that, they could be fully supported financially to join other competitions which brings UPH?s name. (fc/mv)
