In order to celebrate 15 years of existence, UPH?s faculty of Conservatory of Music (CoM) held “UPH National Piano Concert Series” which will be held during the next one year and will feature the classical piano professor from the faculty of CoM UPH each month. The first series began in September, held on September 19, 2015 and hosted by Nathania Mihardjo, a professor of classical piano of UPH, and also an alumnus of UPH and has just completed her study of the Master of Music – Piano Performance at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, America three months ago.

Nathania said that the purpose of the concert series is to enrich the knowledge to students of music in general, as well as an effort to introduce the potential of the faculty of art to attract the interest of musicians and students of music outside of UPH. “We also hope to inspire commoner to better appreciate classical music in Indonesia,” she added.

The piano concert does not actually held a special theme, but for Nathania herself, the theme and philosophy that she gave, especially in this concert is that this concert acts as a media to share her learning experiences as a pianist, “through music we can share and inspire many people and music is one of the talents God has given to me. I have seen that if talents are used truly, it will be able to provide meaning for many people,” said Nathania

In this concert, Nathania performed three songs from German classical composers, which is Bach, Beethoven and Schumann and this lasted for 60 minutes. Nathania and a team from CoM have been preparing for this concert for three months.

Nathania have achieved many achievements both at homeland and overseas, some achievements that she won are the Yamaha Music Scholarship Award in 2012, also became part of the Kirishima 32nd International Music Festival 2011 in Japan where she gets a rare chance to participate in solo and chamber classes with Prof. Shigeo Neriki, besides that Nathania also won many national and regional competitions in the country.

Although she has won so many achievements, but for Nathania achievements and awards is not an important thing in music, but rather the process. “For me a process is priceless because it is for the learning process I became a professional pianist, I have been forged and given a lot of the challenge, not just to become a better musician but also as a person that?s more humble and tough,” she said.

For Nathania, classical music in Indonesia will be increasing in demand. It is characterized by the increasing number of people who studied classical music even to overseas. “I hope when they return to their homeland, they will make a major contribution to the development of classical music in Indonesia and attract more interest both for the audience and the musicians who are serious about a career in music,” said Nathania.

About 70 people attending the concert came from internal and external public of UPH. This first UPH National Piano Concert Series get a positive response from the audience, CoM hopes that the future concerts will also be getting better and inspire UPH academic community and the public at large.
