UPH Hands Out Scholarships for 10 Best Students through OSC Program

Thursday, December 17, 2015 ? The cooperation between Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) and Metrotvnews.com in the Online Scholarship Competition (OSC) program has reached its peak after going through numerous selections which has started since September 28, 2015 to December 17, 2015. In the end, 10 best students were chosen to receive scholarship from UPH for six majors, such as Law, Political Science, Management, Computer Technology, Electrical Engineering and the Marketing-Communications Integrated Online Program. The scholarship was given in form of college entrance fee and semester credits for 2016/2017 academic year.

Budi Legowo, Vice Rector in Marketing for External Relations and Business Development UPH, along with Budhi Yuwono, Head of UPH Scholarship Program as UPH representative in this program, said that this scholarship program is a form of UPH?s awareness for education and this event is really great, especially to support the education in Indonesia

?There is a limited number of Public University in Indonesia, thus the private ones has to take more parts in supporting Indonesia?s education,? explained Budi Legowo. Besides that, according to Budi, he difference between a direct scholarship and the one given through this program, is the competition within it. Through this program, we can see student?s disposition towards UPH compared to 4 other universities which also participated. Budi also added that UPH will always be opened for Metrotvnews.com, or even other companies who offered cooperation such as this.

In this Awarding Night, located in Kuningan City, the representative from the Ministry of Culture and Education of Indonesia, General Inspector Daryanto Ak., MIS., M.Comm., G. Dip.Com., QIA., CA., and the Director of Teaching Department from the Ministry of Technology Research and High Education of Indonesia, Dr. Ir. Paristiyanti Nurwardani, M.P., as well as Nurfajri Budi Nugroho Vice Chief Editor of Metrotvnews.com, were also present to give a speech.

In his speech, the General Inspector, Daryanto expressed his gratitude, representing Anies Baswedan, the minister of Culture and Education of Indonesia who couldn?t be present at the time, for the contribution of Metrotvnews.com with five universities who are concerned for education in Indonesia. Daryanto stated that this OSC program is very relevant with the development of information and technology, which enables students to access this scholarship program much more easily and to have a chance in competing healthily, ?Aside from that, nowadays young people want ?instant? everything, thus through this OSC scholarship program, students enthusiasm and fighting spirit to obtain an achievement as well as to achieve their dreams, could be trained optimally,? Daryanto then added.

After that, in her speech, Parisyanti Nurwardani explained that this scholarship program could in fact bear 50 young scholarship receiver generations who is innovative and is able to master technology as well as optimizing the use of natural resources in Indonesia. ?I truly appreciated the initiative and hardwork from Metrotvnews.com whom worked together with the five universities, Universitas Pelita Harapan, Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN), Trisakti University, Mercubuana University and Al-Azhar Indonesia University who were willing to give a chance for Indonesia children to receive education, for them to bring advancement for Indonesia,? expressed Parisyanti.

At the very last, a speech was given by Nurfajri Budi Nugroho who expressed his gratitude for the five universities who had participated. This scholarship program serves as a mark that Metrotvnews.com is truly a media that cares for the advancement of Indonesia?s education. ?Right now, the reality is there is only 30% percent of people aged 19-23 who are able to receive education in university in Indonesia, and this is very alarming. Among all the problems in Indonesia, Metrotvnews.com choose to pay more attention in education, because for us it?s better to lit up the candle, rather letting ourselves be in darkness,? explained Nurfajri.

After all of the speech, this Awards Night has reached its peak, which was the awarding for the 10 best students who would receive university scholarship through the OSC program. UPH representative, Budi Legowo, gave the award to the 10 students from approximately 400 students whom had applied for UPH.

This Awards Night was attended by approximately 125 students and several parents who were entertained with a performance by the DeltaFour band and souvenirs for 10 students who won the quiz in the game session.
