The 23rd UPH Festival: Rector Inaugurated 3,637 New Students of UPH

Rector Inaugurating the Representatives of News Students from the 12 Faculties of UPH

Approximately, a number of 3,637 new undergraduate students of UPH are officially inaugurated today, Thursday, August 18, 2016, by UPH Rector Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc. In his message for the new students, the Rector of UPH explained the vision of UPH as the cornerstone for the transformative holistic education in UPH.

?Here, we believe that our vision shall be a guide for you all to undergo your studies in this place, they are True Knowledge, Faith in Christ and Godly Character. Aside from that, we also have to commit ourselves to keep this campus clean. Clean from smoke, drugs, bullying, profanities, plagiarism and much more,? said the Rector.

The Rector also hopes that the new students can enjoy their time in university, without having to deal with bullying but instead, they can get assistance from the mentors or their seniors.

?This is UPH?s commitment to providing students with the best education. So now, your part is to do the best to please the Lord. This year, our theme is ?Reach Further?, which reflects our hope for all of you to be prepared to ?reach further? and to be a blessing. We really hope that all of you can find your calling through the talents that God has gifted for you,? the Rector ended his speech.

Along with the Rector, the Founder of UPH, Dr. (H.C.) James T. Riady also encourages students to understand two things in life: the concept of talent and calling. Dr. James said that, among many talents that God has given for each and every person, there would be one or two major talents, which has to come with a true calling, so that you can be impactful for your society and not just become a money-making machine in the future.

In this inauguration, a report on the amount of all new students from all levels was also presented by the Vice Rector of Academics, Gunawati Tjioe, B.Ed., M.Pd., Ph.D.  ?The total amount of students for the 2016/2017 academic year from all levels are 3.990 with 3.637 undergraduates students, 330 graduate students and 23 doctoral program students,? Gunawaty stated.

The symbolical inauguration was done by putting the Smart Card on the students? representative from the 12 faculties, by the Rector, continued with a Student Pledge read by all new students. The event was then ended with an amazing performance from UPH Choir, led by Tutu Sukendro as the conductor, with the song ?Soli Deo Gloria?. (mt)
