UPH Faculty of Medicine becomes the general champion in regional Medical Olympiad 2016 held in Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah, South Tangerang. The competition held in June 2nd-5th, 2016 presented three kinds of areas that contested which are Musculoskeletal System, Cardiorespiratory System, and Gastroentero-hepatology System.
Regional Medical Olympiad 2016 is the competition held by The Association of Indonesian Medical Senate (ISMKI) along with Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah. This competition was followed by 17 universities in Indonesia, such as Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Pelita Harapan, Universitas Padjajaran, Universitas Tarumanegara, Universitas Trisakti, Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah, Universitas Islam Bandung, Universitas Jenderal Ahmad Yani, Universitas Katolik Atma Jaya, Universitas Kristen Maranatha, Universitas Kristen Ukrida Wacana, Universitas Kristen Indonesia, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta, Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati, Universitas Tanjungpura, and Universitas Yarsi.
In this competition, UPH Faculty of Medicine sent three teams, each of them are consisted of two medical students, for every category. The first team consisted Paulus Mario Christopher and Ervina Kimberly, class of 2014 students became the first winner for the Musculoskeletal category; the second team consisted of Aurea Stella Soetjipto and Ivan William Harsono, class of 2013 students, became the second winner for Cardiorespiratory System; last but not least, Clarissa Tania, class of 2013 student and Gilbert Sterling class of 2014 student became the second winner for Gastroentero-hepatology System category.
For Regional Medical Olympiad competition, this was the first time for UPH students to be involved in. But before that, in 2014 students of UPH Faculty of Medicine had achieved the Gold Medal in Indonesia Medical Olympiad competition for Tropic Infection category.
Moreover, Dr. dr. Andree Kurniawan, Sp.Pd., added that UPH Faculty of Medicine is pointed as the host of International Medical Olympiad 2016, with 638 participants from 60 faculties of medicine from all over Indonesia, and 6 students from the abroad faculty of medicine.
Dr. Andree also hoped that this achievement could increase the faculty of medicine students’ motivation to reach the other achievement from a various field. Just like what they did in international publication at Singapore, Australia, Spain, and Bangkok. (mt/mv)
