Universitas Pelita Harapan Faculty of Nursing (UPH-FoN), which has been established since 2008, has produced 38 Bachelor of Nursing (S.Kep) and with 258 of them, who have completed the Nurse Profession program. According to Grace Wirawan, Manager of Academic Support and General  Administration UPH FoN,  80% of their graduates works in hospitals all around Indonesia, some of them would also go abroad to continue their studies in Nursing.

“Year by year, UPH FoN enthusiasts have been increasing. In 2016, UPH FoN accepted 510 students, which increase by 55% from the previous year. The opportunity for a full-four-year scholarship, which includes academic and profession program, has become the main attraction for prospective students,” Grace explained.

This vocational program is open to High School students of all majors, Science, Social, Language and even Vocational. The admission test includes general knowledge, psychological test, and an interview. for the next academic year, the admission test will be held at 30 cities in Java, Sumatera, Kalimantan, Talaud Islands up to Papua. This program provides students with full scholarship, which includes tuition fee, dormitory, food, and transportation fee from their home regions.

“This scholarship program aims to produce compassionate nurses, who have a Christian character, according to the vision and mission of UPH. As a result of that, they could work in Siloam Hospitals throughout Indonesia, directly after they graduated and they would not have to worry about getting a job,” Grace added.

Aside from scholarship for High School student or Entry to Practice (ETP) program, UPH FoN also offers Conversion Class (CC) program for Diploma graduates, who want to earn both Bachelor of Nursing (S.Kep) and Ners (Ns) degree. Among 48 Ners who was inaugurated, there were a number of best graduates. One of them is Ns. Dwi Sartika, S.Kep., who became the best graduate for CC program and Ns. Eva Winda Sarma Siahaan, S.Kep., as the best graduate of ETP program.

Both of them have their own impression for UPH, who has brought them to this point.

Ns. Dwi Sartika, S.Kep ?  Unlike other universities, here in UPH, I was taught to practice the concept of love itself in doing all work. I have been working as a nurse before, but when I continue my studies here, I treat my patients differently from the times before. I can truly love them and build a relationship with my patients. This program improves both my knowledge and skill in my profession as a nurse.

Ns. Eva Winda Sarma Siahaan, S.Kep ? My journey as a nurse began with the scholarship program which UPH offered. At first, I never thought about being a professional nurse. In UPH, we were given a holistic education, we learned about leadership and shaped to be professionals with compassion. (rh/mt)
