Understanding the use of Artificial Intelligence through SISTech Public Forum

School of Information Science and Technology (SISTech) UPH held a public forum to introduce the developments of modern technology for the students of SISTech UPH and the public. The theme for this public forum, ?Trends in Artificial Intelligence and Accelerated Computing Smart City?, was talking about a machine or software, which could be used to solve a problem more efficiently. Artificial Intelligence itself has been known and used since 1950?s. But now, its use has become more immense in daily life. The public forum, which was held on May 23, 2017, at the D501 UPH Karawaci, has been held for the second time, and this time, it was attended by approximately 300 participants.

Prof. Dr. Simon See, an AI (Artificial Intelligent) expert, who is also the Chief Solution Architect & Director of NVIDIA AI APJ Technology Center NVIDIA, became the keynote speaker during this Public Forum. He explained about how the AI technology has been used and developed.

Simon informed that the development of this technology is very promising and will be highly demanded in various aspects such as financial, bank and health. Due to this highly promising development, the AI field will need numerous human resources for further technological developments.

?In NVIDIA, we see that the need for individuals who have high interests in technology is very high, thus we inform all of you, that we are giving you all the opportunity, especially for graduates and final-year students to join NVIDIA, and develop this new technology together,? he stated. 

Another discussion about technology development was also given by keynote speaker Dr. (HC) Mochtar Riady, Founder of Lippo Group, who talked about an ?old story? between a country that welcomes digital technologies and a country that stays with its conservative ways. Let us say China, in the past, Mochtar said that poverty is the main problem in China. But long story short, by taking advantage of the digital technologies? advancement, China has opened itself to greater opportunities. As an example, we can see it in the ongoing development of Alibaba, an online market developed by Jack Ma where everyone can easily make a transaction through a website. The development of this industry has proofed to alleviate poverty in China.

Unlike China, according to Mochtar, Japan is indeed, very advanced in their technology. But sadly, the nation is very restrictive about digital technology?s development and tends to be more conservative. It ends with many of the Japanese companies got taken over by other countries. 

Looking at this fact, Mochtar wants Indonesia to have the courage to answer the challenges of technological development.
