Summer Holiday 2017 was held once more by the Marketing and Admission Department of UPH on June 15-17, 2017, at UPH Karawaci with ?The Future White Collar? as its theme. Summer Holiday is an annual event, which has been specifically designed for High School students. Through this event, hopefully, participants are able to get some insights about college life, as well as the programs offered by UPH. In introducing the programs, participants were involved in a variety of activities such as workshop, seminar, and other creative activities, which are related to the disciplines of the faculties in UPH.
This year, Summer Holiday 2017 took the theme ?The Future White Collar? because of the current business phenomenon which has been popular around the young people, especially start-up business. Through this theme, participants are encouraged to understand how business plans are made. Moreover, participants were also encouraged to employ critical thinking and problem-solving in creating a marketing strategy, and they were also taught about the general process. This attempt was supported by various departments in UPH including Faculty of Law, Business School, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, SISTech and STTPH; specifically, the Hotel Management Concentration. These departments thoroughly support these future young entrepreneurs from all aspects in relation to the making of a start-up business.
Each participant of Summer Holiday was involved in the process of building and running a start-up business. This year, this program was followed by participants from 11 High School from various cities of Indonesia, such as Manado, Surabaya, Bandung, Samarinda Pekanbaru, Jakarta, Bogor and Tangerang. ?Surely, this program was not just an activity to fill their holidays up; through this program, students are also able to gain knowledge and insights, and they can build networks with other participants from all over Indonesia,? explained Elisa Laksana, coordinator of UPH Summer Holiday Program. Aside from that, Elisa also stated that through this program, students are able to establish their choices for their further studies in college. Generally, 40% of them are able to know what major and faculty they would want to take in the future through this program.
Following are participants? testimonies: Jeff, 10th-grade student of SMA Cahaya Harapan Bandung ?This is the first time I joined a Summer Holiday program, and through this program, I could get an insight into the marketing strategies needed to sell products with an interesting theme. UPH is really kind for hosting this kind of event,? said Jeff.
Jason Fernando, 10th-grade student of Sekolah Palembang Harapan ?I join the Summer Holiday program to fill my holidays.
