January 12, 2018, Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Sciences UPH welcomes 25 young generations from Hongkong who are members of Wofoo Leader’s Network (WLN) in collaboration with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Chapter Jayakarta. This activity is part of a series event of Hong Kong – Indonesia exchange tour events that aimed to build the competence of the young generation and generating ideas from the youths as a ‘responsible citizens’.
At UPH the group attended a series of activities, starting with seminars and discussions, followed by a visit to the Chinese community center in Tangerang city. The seminar entitled “Collaboration Between Indonesia & Hongkong: Opportunities Under Belt and Road Initiatives” was presented by two speakers. Johanes Herlijanto, UPH Communication Lecturer, and Susy Tekunan, lecturer of UPH International Relations.
In a seminar discussing the opportunities for this China-Indonesia relationship, Dr. Johanes discusses the assimilation and acculturation of culture that takes place between Chinese and Indonesian culture. Susil Tekunan, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, expressed his concern about the diplomatic relationships and the political atmosphere of the economy that has a potential for both countries.
Related to the topic of OBOR (One Belt One Road) which is China’s initiative to rebuild modern ‘silk pathways’ in order to improve relations between China and African countries, Eurasia, Europe, Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, Susy describes anything which has been done by the Indonesian government as a form of support for this program.
The program held by WLN with JCI and UPH is expected to increase the cultural-related insight and cooperation opportunities that can be made between the two countries to the young generation.
JCI itself on January 12, 2018, has also certified its cooperation program with FISIP UPH through the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This cooperation covers academic, research and scientific publications, and community service.
According to Magdalena Lestari Ginting, one of the lecturers of FISIP UPH, With UPH – JCI cooperation, JCI can partner with UPH again to conduct similar activities, so it is expected that through this collaboration UPH students can be more exposed to the global insight and know how to respond critically, ethical and comprehensive issues related to the existing issues.
Overall, of course, FISIP UPH feels the benefits of this event. For UPH students, they have the opportunity to interact directly with 25 students from Hongkong who are coordinated by WFN. Students also have the opportunity to become facilitators of the students’ journeys from Hong Kong in this program. (mt) |
