IoT (Internet of things) is a term that has been talked mostly, but not many people know anything about the various benefits of it, from various aspects and perspective. Electrical Engineering Pelita Harapan University (UPH)?s students got the opportunity in listening to the explanation of IoT from several its aspects, which includes the side of technology, regulation, and business. This explanation was given by Satriyo Dharmanto, member of advisory board IEEE Indonesia Section, with ?Implementations ? Technology, Regulation, and Business Model Perspective? topic, on March 13, 2018, at UPH Lippo Village. Moreover, Radhi Kartowisastro also talked, CEO PT Sensativ Technology Innovation demonstrate the various implementation of IoT that has been done in various parts of Indonesia.
?Our goal today is to share to all of you, young adult about the technology development. Furthermore, through the explanation today may you all inspired to think about the ideas of product based on technology, and later on, you can be an entrepreneur in this big opportunity area,? said Satriyo.
In his explanation, Satriyo explained a change that occurred related to the technology development, one of them is the change in business. For example, if before the role of CFO (Chief Financial Officer) felt more important and be strategy?s standard, but now appeared CIO (Chief Information Officer) which is also has an important role to establish the strategy from a technology perspective. Moreover, Satriyo said that phenomenon right now, there are 43% families in the world are the internet users. In Indonesia itself, based on data of APJII (Asosiasi Penyelenggara Jasa Internet Indonesia) 2018, there is 143million from 262million of Indonesia population that using the internet, where 60% of them is the young adult (13-18 years old as many as 17% and 19-34 years old as many as 43%).

After talked about technology and regulation, Satriyo explained more about the business model which is utilizing IoT.
?In business, when we want to use technology and this IoT?s concept, the most important that we have to understand is the target of our customer, what is our value proposition, and how is value chain to deliver that value proposition. In the end, a solution of business which is given with based on this IoT hoped it will have superiority, cost-effective, energy-effective, high service quality, large reach, increasing flexibility, high privacy,? said Satriyo.
At the end of his explanation, Satriyo was giving the examples of IoT?s usage that may be implemented in various job areas like agriculture with smart farming, animal farm, plantation, smart environment, smart water, smart city, etc. The example of IoT?s product that able to answer that necessary had been proved by Radhi Hersemiaji Kartowisastro, CEO PT Sensativ Techology Indonesia; company based on IoT that already has some products like the example of ?Artemi? system.
This Artemi system had been used by Radhi and team to one poultry farm, where this media is able in measuring and monitoring the temperature, weather, and humidity in poultry cages with the purpose that poultry may grow maximal as the owner of animal farm?s target. In addition, there are also examples of the IoT?s implementation to monitoring the adequacy of water and soil nutrients in oil palm nurseries.
At the closing, Radhi and Satriyo invited all the students and lecturers to try ?Artemi? sensor that he carried. The set-up is simple since its only need the waterproof sensor connect to the internet via WiFi and the access is done only by enter the Sensativ website and input the username and password demo that given. In the smartphone display, each participant immediately listed how the temperature and humidity and air quality that exist in the UPH classroom. The students look enthusiastically by directly trying the demo of this ‘Artemi’ sensor device.
Through this lecture, it is expected that UPH Electrical Engineering students can open their mindset and challenged to combine these IoT opportunities with the scholarship that gained through the study process to create a useful product. (mt) |
