Stephen L. Metcalfe: The Key to Success is Attitude

The key to success is an attitude. This is continually emphasized by Stephen L. Metcalfe ? Director and Coach of UniversitasPelitaHarapan (UPH) Sports on the female Eagles Basketball UPH victory on the regional leg of LigaMahasiswa (LIMA) 2018.

UPH?s Eagles Basketball team made it through the elimination round of LigaMahasiswa 2018 held in UPH Lippo Village, Karawaci, Tangerang, on June 26th ? July 2nd, 2018. The Male UPH Eagles Basketball team won with a score of 89-66 against UniversitasEsaUnggul (UES), while the Female UPH Eagles Basketball team won with a score of 62-41 against UES. This wins the Eagles team a ticket to the National LIMA Basketball competition that will be held in the Sports Center of UniversitasAirlangga on August 9-16th, 2018.

Stephen L. Metcalfe believes that UPH?s Eagles Basketball team wins are not achieved by aiming for any trophy, but because they play for the sake of the players themselves, other people, their coach, and most importantly, for their parents.     ?We teach them to play not for the trophy, because trophies do not last forever. We want them to play for the right reasons ? for God, for themselves, for their families, and for others. Whatever the outcome, they can always get better and better and achieve everything within their capabilities,? Metcalfe explained.

Metcalfe always made the most out of his players ? he trains them harder than most coaches, five days a week.

?My training is really tough. I want them to train harder and harder, even harder than when they are in the game. I want them to run faster than when they are competing. Training is very important. Also, we should not forget to teach them attitude so that they can be useful individuals in the future,? he added.

So far, UPH Eagles Basketball Team has won 4 championships, 3 of them consecutively in 2015, 2016, and 2017. (dl)
