‘Abiyapi’, one of the 34 short films of UPH Cinematography concentration students that aired in ‘The 5th Film Screening’ of DKV UPH student, gained praise as a full of narrative movie content from the senior filmmaker; Lukman Sardi. This statement was delivered on the occasion of the talk show before the screening at the Ultra XD Cinemaxx Theater studio, Maxxbox Lippo Village, Karawaci July 23-25 2018.

“I am amazed by the work made by UPH VCD (Visual Communication Design) students, titled ‘Adiyapi’. It has the capability of showing cinematography which is quite good. Especially when speaking of the narrative richness, you can pick up the various languages in Indonesia. And then when there are Dutch people, you were speaking in the real Dutch language. But still for students who are making the final project, the foundation of a movie is the script with the details when illustrates a situation,? explained Lukman while congratulating the student team when produced the ?Abiyapi? movie.

‘Abiyapi’ is a short film by UPH VCD students of 2013, namely Kelvin Geraldo, Calvin Sianipar, and Theodore Johan. To the cinematographers who attended the talk show, the theme of ‘Representation’ Lukman reviewed the important principles in producing a film.

?I think the works are already in the front step ahead. You are presenting a short film but with a long film style, by not underestimating this film project. A film must be able to represent emotions. Emotions are not only from expressions, but also everything within the frame that can support. Don?t forget to start a work which comes from a passion to be more powerful and able to withstand all challenges, and make stories from the simple ones that related to your life,? Lukman shared.

Besides the film discussion, ?The 5th Film Screening? talk show presents Mutia Terian ? Creative Director Studio Alva as one of the speaker. On this occasion, Mutia also provided motivation and input from the students who were making the film project as well as animation.

“Start making something that really comes from your heart and what is in your hands. Besides passion, you also have to understand how your capacity is, what you have, and being realistic. Indeed everything must go through the process, and there is nothing comes easy. Starts from the simple things, and start with a strong foundation that is how to script and how you build character in your work,? Mutia said.

The 5th Film Screening is an annual DKV UPH Student program which aims to introduce film and animation works from students as a result of a learning process and student creativity. Thus the community can get to know the specialization of Cinematography and Animation in the UPH VCD study program, while at the same time appreciating the students’ works displayed. This year there were 34 animated student works and 32 short film works produced between 2017 and 2018. Among the animated works that aired there were works that won awards in several competitions, as well as films that passed selection at film festivals such as the Balinale Fim Festival.

During the 3days film screening, more than 800 spectators filled the Cinemaxx Ultra XD studio and Maxxbox Lippo Village Karawaci. This event is fully supported by Cinemaxx and is free to the public.
