In light of Indonesia?s 73rd Independence Anniversary, Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) civitas academia holds a ceremony in UPH Lippo Village Basketball Court. The ceremony was held at 8-9 a.m. and was attended by around 4000 participants consisting of new students, mentors, staff, lecturers, and leaders.

The Rector, Dr. (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak, M.Eng.Sc., acts as the Commander of Ceremony, and delivers his message of independence through the speech of Mohamad Nasir, the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, with the theme ?Kerja Kita Prestasi Bangsa? (Our Work is Our Nation?s Success).

Through the Minister?s speech, the Rector encourages participants to think about the nation?s achievements in international competitions in different disciplines ? science, sports, and many others. These achievements should make us aware of the intellectual power and creativity of Indonesia?s citizens. This is ?Kerja Kita Prestasi Bangsa? ? strengthening our pride in our country, Indonesia.

The speech also pointed out that Indonesia still has to fight against challenges ? the eradication of corruption, the strengthening of competitive quality, and the industrial revolution 4.0. These challenges, certainly, cannot put off the fire in us ? it should strengthen us to together work hard in our own fields, and then together conquer all these challenges.

This speech also points out how the 4.0 industrial revolution demands us to master new literacy types in higher education ? Data Literation, Technology Literation, and Human Configuration. All higher education graduates should familiarize themselves with these three literacy types. To train students on this literacy, lecturers, teachers, and other parties in the educational sector should improve their quality, especially in terms of leadership skills, teamwork, the ability to adapt with recent technology and global challenges, and entrepreneurship skills. These skills will help all of us face the 4.0 industrial revolution, conquer the nation?s challenges in the way, and come out as a nation competing against frontrunners.

The speech wraps up the independence ceremony attended by all UPH civitas academia. The solemn ceremony runs smoothly, with a flag-raising ceremony and singing of national songs. (mt)
