Universitas Pelita Harapan and IBM Partner to Help Students Master Business and Technology Skills of the Future
Jakarta, 18 July 2008 – Pelita Harapan University and IBM Indonesia today announced a new initiative to equip the university?s students with Information Technology (IT) skills required in the 21st century workplace. This initiative will provide students with a wide range of IBM software and resources to harness their IT skills.
Businesses today are looking to hire the next generation of IT and business experts who encompass dual capabilities of deep business skills, and technical understanding. This initiative, called Career Education in IBM Software (CEIS), is a comprehensive software education program designed by IT experts in the field for graduates and experienced professionals to accelerate their skills and knowledge, to help them succeed in this dynamic industry.
CEIS curriculum brings together the latest software content, strong technical foundation, real-world industry experience, hands-on lab courses and best practices all into a single unique education program. Specifically, the CEIS program will provide students and lecturers with knowledge and understanding of a wide range of IBM software such as Lotus, Information Management, Rational, WebSphere, and Tivoli software. The initiative also opens up resources designed to help graduating students majoring in Information Technology, get the International IBM Professional Certification including Lotus Certified Engineer or Certified Database Administrator credentials.
Nurturing the next generation of IT workers and the whole area of Education has always been one of IBM?s key focus areas. ?By collaborating with universities, IBM is perched to help faculty members and students get an edge on the needs of the marketplace,? said Suryo Suwingjo, President Director, IBM Indonesia. ?IBM is partnering with Pelita Harapan University to help students to build integrated mixed skills to adapt to the quickly changing world of technology. We accomplish this by exposing students to tomorrow?s technologies today and sharing the best practices from IBM?s global development teams, so that they can apply this in the real-world business environment,? Suryo added.
The students from the Information Technology Division, Pelita Harapan University would be able to select from all of the wide range of IBM software, to outline their own course. From start to completion, IBM experts will provide hands-on mentoring to Pelita Harapan University?s lecturers to boost their knowledge in IBM?s software engineering skills.

This program incorporates the latest cutting edge technologies into our curriculum and provides students with a chance to build their extensive list of IT skills. This program also enables the students to have a peek into what the future of work looks like in terms of expertise required to solve difficult business challenges,? said Prof. Dr (HC). The CEIS program was launched in ASEAN last year and Pelita Harapan University is the first CIES partner in Indonesia and the third university in the ASEAN region to sign up for this partnership with IBM. The other participating universities include Multimedia University in Malaysia and Hanoi University of Technology in Vietnam. Much of this initiative was made possible through IBM?s Academic Initiative, an innovative program offering a wide range of technology education benefits to meet the goals of colleges and universities.
IBM is partnering with universities that will use IBM technologies for teaching, trainings and researching purposes. As member of this initiative, Pelita Harapan University will receive free access to IBM Software Partner World, course materials, training and curriculum development. Nearly 2,000 universities and 11,000 faculty members worldwide have joined the IBM?s Academic Initiative.
