Dual Degree Graduates of UPH Food Technology Achieves The Best Mark at University of Newcastle

As many as 907 of the 920 graduates of the Universitas and Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Pelita Harapan, attended the graduation ceremony.

UPH Rector is inaugurating the best graduates from undergraduate and postgraduate program

Lippo Village (8/5) – As many as 907 of the 920 graduates of the Universitas and Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata (School of Tourism) Pelita Harapan, attended the graduation ceremony today at Grand Chapel, UPH Campus, Tangerang. The graduates consisted of as many as 835 undergraduate students, 79 postgraduate students, and six diploma students. At graduation time, there are 63 Bachelor of Nursing first generation, which followed the extension program of cooperation with UPH School of Nursing and Siloam Hospitals. Among the graduates, there are also three graduates who earned a dual degree from UPH Department of Food Technology and the University of Newcastle (UoN), Australia.

“All three graduates are not only successfully completed their studies at two universities, but they also get the best marks at University of Newcastle,” said Julia Ratna Wijaya, Person in Charge of Operations in Dual Degree Programs UPH Food Technology.

According to Julia, the systems applied in UPH lectures are very supportive for the students who will follow a dual degree program. The main capital is the standard of values and discipline. “Our department set a high standard for each course, plus the tasks and reports are quite tight,” she added.

Discipline is also the priority at UPH Department of Food Technology, to form the student to be more responsible, has a strong character with a high fighting spirit in facing problems. Attendance at classes, due date submission for task and report, the behavior and way of dressing in the lab is applied very strictly. Use of English in the classroom as well as in daily communication is also very stressed from the beginning so they are more accustomed. Essentially the students already familiar with the discipline and also a fairly heavy load during the four semesters beginning in UPH.

Ivonne Adeline Dewi, one of the dual degree graduates, said she was pleased and fortunate to be able to follow the program. In addition to reaching two degrees, there are many other experiences which she achieved while attending the program. The girl who was born in Magelang, November 8, 1988 claimed no difficulty when continued her studies at UoN. It?s because during her study at UPH, Ivone has forged to be an independent. “The education system applied in the UPH made us accustomed to the system there are strong and independent,” says this treveling pigeon enthusiasts.

The same is also disclosed by Shanti Cahyadi. This dual degree student claimed no trouble following the lecture at UoN. “It only took one month of adaptation,” she said. According to Shanti, lectures during her study at UPH are very helpful. Not just a matter of course, but also discipline. “At UPH, we were given daily reports and tasks, so in UoN too. So we’re accustomed with it,” she said. Gifts received during in UPH, not only enables them to follow the dual degree program, but it makes them capable of being the best. The score that they achieve are high enough compared to student from another university. “Competition is quite tight, because participants from various countries,” said the daughter of Indra Cahyadi.

Pocketed two degrees would make them easy to walk in the future. When asked plans after graduation, Ivonne and Shanti wanted to pursue their career. Initially, they tried a career in the homeland. But going forward, they want to try on other people’s land. “Looking for new challenges outside,” said Ivonne.

On this occasion, UPH Rector welcomed this achievement gladly. UPH graduate are hope to not only clever, but must be accompanied with noble character, not selfishness, but rather take the interests of others, especially the Indonesian state and nation that are currently building. This is in line with the vision of UPH, which are true knowledge, faith in God and Goldly character. “We can not do much without the support of parents. Therefore, graduates must maintain the goodwill of parent and almamater,” he added. (ros)
