The Faculty of Liberal Arts (FLA) UPH has opened a School of Philosophy aand Divinity. It isthe first undergraduate study program, for a university, to integrate philosophy and theologyintensely, based upon the foundation of the Bible and in the framework of ReformedTheology, among evangelical-oriented universities in Indonesian. In order to introduce theSchool of Philosophy and Divinity to the public, UPH has held a ?Dean?s Talk? on Saturday,26 April 2014, from 08.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. at the first floor of Building D.This event presentsAdriani Gunawan Academic Director of FLA, Hendra Thamrindinta S.Si., M.Div., Acting ExecutiveDean of FLA, dan Dr. Lusiana Idawatii, S.T., M.T., M.M., Associate Provost.
During this event, Hendra Thamrindinata, the Acting Executive Dean of Faculty of Liberal Arts,explained that this program was formed with a purpose to create graduates who canappreciate and use their intellectual ability maximally based on Christian faith.
?We believe that, in Christian faith, intellect is God?s gift, the fruit of His grace. However, theproblem found today is that many Christians have not used their intellect maximally?specifically for understanding the truth. Through the School of Philosophy and Divinity, UPHwill train its students to cultivate their ability to think, analyze, justify, and synthesizephilosophical and theological thinking coherently and comprehensively, and ably toimplement this thought in all aspects of life, wherein all Christians had been called toembodied a responsible life of stewardship .?, explains Hendra.
The uniqueness of this program is the foundation upon which it is established, which is theinfallible Word of God, the worldview within which it is interpreted, which is Reformedworldview and Theology, and the principles by which it is conducted, which are Jesus Christas the Logos of Creation, reason, and incarnation, who unites and hold together all truth inHimself, faith seeking understanding, and Philosophy as the ancilla theologiae.

Graduates from the School of Philosophy and Divinity will work in areas that not onlyrequires their ability to obtain information, but also to interpret information, weigh evidencescarefully, research issues thoroughly, criticize a specific thought position, makeconsiderations of values, possess historical sensitivity, formulate rational goals, make planscomprehensively and detailly, and possess a desire for the truth.
?The professions that can be cultivated are from educational institutions as an educationalwork force or anything else related to education, churches as an evangelist, teacher, or pastor,religious organizations, non-government organizations, companies related to media, training centres that are related to motivation, counseling, or life skills, entrepeneurs, and writers.?,says Hendra.
UPH is ready to answer the call of God with lecturers who are ready to educate the studentsof the School of Philosophy and Divinity to be graduates capable of thinking maximallyaccording to the Christian faith in finding the absolute truth that finds its center point,wholeness, and stability only in Jesus Chrisst.
