I learned a lot of new things, about Jesus, not just on the surface level, but more in depth of what God is trying to tell us through the bible.

Compulsory Courses

Each of our foundational areas is taught from a Christ-centered perspective. We attempt to teach these foundations in a way that maintains a constant connection both to the lives of the students, and to their educational majors. Our hope is that by providing rigorous Christ-centered foundations in these areas, we will be contributing to the formation of graduates who are not merely proficient, but truly good.

Christian Religion (4)
this course studies the Christian canon within the rubric of salvation history focusing on two particular themes: the kingdom and the covenant. The first half of lecture focuses on the Old Testament (OT) and the second half focuses on the New Testament, and particularly the fulfilment of the OT themes and promises in the person of Jesus Christ.

World Religions (4)
this course will deal with the major religions, namely Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, New Age, and Christianity. The main focus will be on the distinct and essential teachings of each religion. Without taking pluralist assumptions, it will also discuss some of the ways in which one can relate to people of other faiths like dialogue and possible cooperation for common good as citizens in a multi-religious nation.

God and Creation (4)
This course explores the concept of worldview in a general sense and then examines the particular characteristics of the Christian worldview, which is grounded in the framework of the Bible as sacred Scripture with its grand narrative — including its history, formation, key elements, and the evaluation of worldviews.

God and Universe (4)
The course God and the Universe examines the concept of worldview through the ideas of key philosophers in the history of Western thought, particularly those whose philosophical reflections address the nature of the universe, God, and humanity. The course framework encompasses philosophical developments from the classical, medieval, modern, and contemporary periods.

God and Sin (4)
In this course, students will engage with Hamartiology (the doctrine of sin), focusing on humanity’s fall into sin and its effects on humankind and the created order; Christology (the doctrine of Jesus Christ), emphasizing the person and work of Christ; and Soteriology (the doctrine of salvation) within the Reformed theological framework, particularly through the lens of TULIP (Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints) and the ordo salutis (the order of salvation).

Humanity and Morality (4)
The course Humanity and Morality aims to introduce the field of ethics—including meta-ethics, normative ethics, and applied ethics—to enable students to understand and apply philosophical knowledge of moral philosophy in making sound moral decisions.

God and The New Creation (4)
In this course, students will study Ecclesiology (the doctrine of the Church), which explores the nature, attributes, and the mission and calling of the Church, as well as Eschatology (the doctrine of the last things), focusing on the nature of history, individual eschatology, and general eschatology.

Through these topics, students are provided with ample opportunity to engage in critical evaluation of various perspectives and contemporary issues related to the Church and the end times.

History and Society (4)
This course introduces students to the analysis of key ideas in political philosophy and the fundamental tenets of contemporary ideologies. It equips students to identify the anthropological, sociological, and political presuppositions embedded within various philosophical perspectives on politics, while examining three principal types of political orientation: the politics of domination, the politics of freedom, and the politics of empowerment. This course introduces students to the analysis of key ideas in political philosophy and the fundamental tenets of contemporary ideologies. Civics (2)
Civic Education is a component of the higher education curriculum designed to foster nationalism and a love for the homeland among students. It also serves as an introductory platform for formal political education through the comprehension, interpretation, and analysis of the values embodied in the Four Pillars of Indonesian Nationhood: 1) Pancasila as the state ideology; 2) The 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia (UUD NRI 1945); 3) The values of national unity derived from the principles of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI); and 4) Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity).

Pancasila (2)
Pancasila Education is a compulsory course offered to all university students as part of higher education in Indonesia. The course aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the significance of Pancasila as the foundation of the state, the national ideology, and the core of Indonesian character.

It also emphasizes Pancasila’s role as a unifying force of the nation, deeply rooted in the long-standing traditions and social practices of Indonesian society—marked by tolerance, mutual respect, and appreciation of diversity.

Indonesian Language (2)
The main theme of the Indonesian Language course is the use of the Indonesian language within the framework of stewardship. In practice, students are expected to develop proficiency in academic writing, particularly in producing scholarly papers, and in public speaking, as forms of effective communication in proper and appropriate Indonesian.

Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (2)
The Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) course is specifically designed for international (expatriate) students at UPH. This course aims to foster and develop students’ motivation and ability to master the Indonesian language accurately and appropriately. Learning focuses on building competence in vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and sentence structure, while developing the four core language skills: listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

Reflective Reasoning (2)
This course focuses on selected soft skills essential for university graduates to effectively engage in society—particularly the skills of understanding others and oneself, as well as basic reasoning skills.

These competencies are considered vital for grasping the true nature of human identity and for the pursuit of becoming a whole person—one who is capable of contributing to social transformation through the wise and competent application of these skills in the contemporary professional world.

Servanthood Leadership (2)
This course equips students to understand leadership from the perspective of the Christian worldview, as expressed through the philosophy of Servant Leadership, and to apply its implications concretely in daily life. The curriculum is organized into three main components: 1) Leadership Worldview – Concepts and Philosophy of Servant Leadership; 2) Leadership: Start with Leadself – Knowledge and Skills for Self-Leadership; and 3) Leadership in Public – Skills for communicating authentically, empathetically, and persuasively in public contexts.

Text and Context (2)
Through this course, students will explore the textual rhetorical elements that construct meaning, while remaining attentive to the contextual background of each text. Theories such as discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, media studies, and literary studies are applied to help students develop cultural and media literacy, as well as creative thinking skills in discussing global issues from diverse disciplinary perspectives represented across various texts and media.
