Starting from the 2013/2014 academic year, Pelita Harapan University is set to implement its ?Accelerated Program? ?an accelerated undergraduate program which enables students to get a bachelor?s degree in three, instead of four, years. This program goes hand in hand with the university?s desire to support our government?s plan in boosting the number of trained and ready-to-work human resource.
The new students of the 2013/2014 academic year will be included in the program right away. Accordingly Pelita Harapan University welcomed high school students and parents, to attend a meet-and-greet event held on November 19, 2012, starting from 8.30 a.m. until 10 a.m.. The prospective students and their parents were invited to participate in this socialization program and consult with faculty representatives, particularly Mr. John Riady, Executive Dean of Faculty of Business, Faculty of Law, and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, who gave a presentation on some detailed explanations on the advantages of joining the ?Accelerated Program? and pursuing a bachelor?s degree at Pelita Harapan University.
A Bachelor?s in 3 Years The ?Accelerated Program? is an undergraduate program that shortens the average time it takes to finish the study. This program consists of three semesters within one academic year that span fourteen weeks of effective lecturing in every semester. Next year will also see the beginning of course material being offered in modular system that requires a student to take a total of 144 credits in nine semesters. In order to keep the students fully focused, they are allowed to take a prearranged module of sixteen credits. This system makes it possible for a student to participate in non-academic activities that are useful for adding to the depth of a student?s ?soft skills? necessary to excel in any work field. A maximum of twenty credits a student can take in each semester lets them ensure the completion of their study in three years. Furthermore, the advantage of taking more than sixteen credits in one semester is that any additional credit will come free of charge. A student who fails in less than three course subjects is also eligible to continue to the next module.
Quality is Still a Priority The ?Accelerated Program? is aimed towards shaping holistic education and hardworking individuals. The culture within the campus emphasizes on the balance in knowledge, faith, and character by encouraging academic research and social responsibility as well as refining the spirituality, art, and sportsmanship sides of Pelita Harapan University students. The gathering concluded with a ?Q&A? session for the guests, which was attended by faculty members along with representatives of the Admission Department. In addition, parents also got the chance to join a campus tour to look at some of the facilities the campus has to offer and the ongoing classroom activities. (rh) |
