Five Essential Competencies for New Graduates Entering the Workforce.

To address this question, the Career Center and Corporate Relations (CCCR) at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) organized a seminar called ‘Must-Have Skills for New Hires’ for UPH students. In the seminar held on October 25, 2023, at UPH Lippo Village Campus, Tangerang, Lianawati, the General Manager of Talent Acquisition and Assessment at Kawan Lama Group, highlighted five essential skills that UPH students must have to make themselves attractive in the eye of big companies. They are:

1. Problem Solving
Problem-solving is a fundamental competency for a new employee. With this skill, you can help find solutions to address issues within a company. A new employee with the ability to think broadly and creatively analyze problems from various perspectives will be sought after by major companies.

2. Teamwork
The ability to collaborate is a crucial foundation for a new employee. In the future, you will join teams and collaborate with colleagues to complete tasks. Additionally, you’ll work with various departments. Therefore, effective teamwork and task management skills are key competencies for new employees.

3. Eagerness to Learn
In an era of rapid technological developments, an eagerness to learn is a must-have attitude. A new employee must be eager to continuously learn and broaden their knowledge and perspectives. This helps them to stay productive, innovative, and ready to face challenges in the workplace.

5. Social Skills and Communication
