Do you know that fire destroys Jakarta four times a day? Do you still remember the hot news of fire engulfed Wisma Kosgoro on Thamrin street recently? This must be concerned as this begins to threat the safety and security of both humans and buildings. Based on this issue, Master of Civil Engineering Universitas Pelita Haparan (UPH) with Construction Management as major concentration held a K3 seminar or Kesehatan dan Keselamatan Kerja (Healthy and Safety at Work) on 20 March 2015 at UPH Graduate School, Plaza Semanggi. This seminar was conducted by Prof. Dr. Manlian Ronald A. Simanjuntak, S.T., MT., S.Min, the Head of Master of Civil Engineering program and his professor who is also a Master of Civil Engineering lecturer, Prof. Dr. Ir. Suprapto, M.Sc., FPE.
This seminar aimed to denote the commitment of the Master of Civil Engineering program in socializing the topics as to the program uniqueness, like Building and Environment Safety and Risk Management to university students and public. Besides that, the incident that happened at Wisma Kosgoro, Margo City Depok, and at Tanah Abang area also became the background of this event. The incident was reviewed in detail by Prof. Manlian in the article column on Media Indonesia and Metro TV, 11 March 2015 about the ?Horizontal and Vertical Fire?.
?One important thing that became the basic for the topic selection was the efforts to institute UPH as the only pioneer for K3 Safety Campus in which UPH can be a benchmark destination for other educational institution,? stated Prof. Manlian.
According to Prof. Manlian, who is also the member of Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (IAI), or the architect alliance in Indonesia, the implementation of K3 has to be related to Building Administration stipulated in UU no. 28, 2002 which refers to the Physical Building. ?The K3 concept is in every stage of building management, from the feasibility study, design, construction, operation, and even the demolition or preservation. K3 also does not solely depend on the humans, just like the focus of Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration of Indonesia (Kemenakertrans RI), but also the physical building,? he stated.
