UPH 15th Graduation Ceremony: Courage to Change the World

Dr (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak M.Eng.Sc., the rector of Universitas Pelita Harapan, congratulated 837 students of UPH who graduated on 16 May 2009 at UPH Grand Chapel.

Lippo Village (18/5) – Dr (Hon) Jonathan L. Parapak M.Eng.Sc., the rector of Universitas Pelita Harapan, congratulated 837 students of UPH who graduated on 16 May 2009 at UPH Grand Chapel. He stated that he was proud enough with the students? achievement on this 15th graduation and expected more achievement in the future.

The Rector also encouraged student to be the agents of change and hope for the nation. Earlier, in his personal interview, he said that almost 60% of UPH?s graduates had worked before graduation. Some of them had their own business, thus opening job fields for others who needed job.

He further explained that UPH was applying a holistic education. The application of the educational system includes arts, sports, and social services. Some of the social service activities done by UPH students were teaching kids who could not afford to go to school, and building school in the garbage dump.

In addition, he also stated that UPH offers dual degree programs and applies international curriculums.

When he was asked about world class university, he replied that UPH is also targeting to be a world class university through teaching and learning.

The Mayor of Tangerang, H. Wahidin Halim, whose daughter was also graduated at the 15th Graduation Ceremony was presented as a distinguished guest. He said that he is satisfied with UPH?s achievement. ?UPH?s performance is getting better and better in many aspects such as its facilities, students? discipline, and also in ministering the public needs,? said the mayor complimenting.

The head of Kopertis Wilayah III also delivered a similar speech as the rector, that the graduates should have ability to create job fields for others.

The president of Corban College, Reno Hoff, also delivered a graduation speech, encouraging the graduates to stand firmly in the present crisis. He quoted 2 Chronicles 32:1-8 to point out four ways to get courage: know and believe that God is with us, do what we could do, relied on God and display courage to encourage others.

Finally, he said that to be a leader, all graduates should have a distinguished character that is willing to take risks.
