Round of the Philip C. Jessup ILMCC 2023
The Faculty of Law at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) achieved another remarkable feat by winning the national round of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (Philip C. Jessup ILMCC) 2023, held from 4-11 February 2023. The team won not only the national title but also the Best Respondent Memorial and Best Combined Memorials categories.
As a result of their victory, the UPH FH team, comprising Andrew Daniel Djapri, Cloudio Ardelle Hitipeuw, Christelle Clairine Siregar, Caitlynn Nadya Aurelia, and Gerald Adrian Maden Silalahi, will represent Indonesia in the international round scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C. from April 8 to 15, 2023.
“We are very grateful to have won this competition for the second year in a row, a first in UPH’s history. This competition taught us the art of legal argumentation, oral advocacy, professionalism, and teamwork. It provided us with practical experience and insight into working as professionals in the real world,” said Andrew.
The cases presented at this year’s competition were drawn from recent events, such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and raised the theme of “The Case Concerning the Clarent Belt,” which deals with issues of humanitarian law, unilateral economic sanctions, and the legal consequences of failing to properly dispose of Hazardous and Toxic Material waste.
