A seminar entitled ?Persyaratan dan Perijinan Bangunan di Indonesia? held by Universitas Pelita Harapan?s (UPH) Civil Engineering Magister Program
Manlian R. Simanjuntak, Hari Soeprapto, and Ekie Keristiawan is discussing Indonesia’s building safety and reliability
Indonesia is considered left behind in it?s building reliability and safety standard, while the fact is ? Construction in Indonesia is organized by a lot of laws and standardizations to bring safety to the users. Undang-Undang Bangunan Gedung Nomor 28 Tahun 2002, Standard Nasional Indonesia (SNI) which was arranged by Badan Standardisasi Nasional (BSN), building design standards for each area such as designs, structures, mechanics, electrics, interior, gardens, and architectures are just a few of those regulations.
All these had covered safety, accessibility, comfort, health, and other special conditions which should be met in order to satisfy the citizens. ?The purpose of constructing a building is to bring safety and comfort to the citizens,? said Head of Ikatan Ahli Manajemen Proyek Indonesia (IAMPI), Hari Soeprapto.
Soeprapto was invited as a speaker to a seminar entitled ?Persyaratan dan Perijinan Bangunan di Indonesia? held by Universitas Pelita Harapan?s (UPH) Civil Engineering Magister Program on Wednesday (30/6). The seminar also invited Deputy Head of IFPA (Indonesian Fire Protection Association) Ekie Keristiawan and UPH?s Civil Engineering Magister Head of Program Manlian R. Simanjuntak.
One of the main factors that cause the low quality of Indonesia?s buildings is the inefficient fire prevention and extinguishing efforts. Keristiawan stated that one of the main things that cause a building to get burnt easily is the rapidly increasing amount of citizens.
?The susceptibility of a city toward the danger of fire is mainly caused by unbalanced amount preventions and overcomes of fire with the very big increase on the amount of citizens,? said Keristiawan.
The result of that big amount of citizens is that the NSPM (Norma, Standar, Pedoman dan Manual) socializations about overcoming fire cannot reach all people quickly. Besides, the insufficient amount of human resources and fire extinguishing efforts and equipments also affect these problems.
Project Management Program was discussed by Soeprapto for overcoming construction failures, including fire. This program includes reforming building plans selection process based on the qualities and competencies through standardizations and certifications.
?If applied correctly and supported by professional disciplines, the efforts to prevent construction failures will be more successful,? said Soeprapto.
This open for public seminar will be continued on July 30th 2009. The speakers invited are Kepala Dinas Penataan dan Pengawasan Bangunan DKI Jakarta, Hari Sasongko Kushasi, Kepala Dinas Pemadam DKI Jakarta, Palmin Napitupulu, Ahli Peneliti Utama Bidang Fisika dan Keselamatan Bangunan, Suprapto, Pakar infrastruktur dari Institut Teknologi Indonesia, Krishna Mochtar, and UPH?s Civil Engineering Magister Head of Program Manlian R. Simanjuntak.
