The Animation Lab and Film Studio of School of Design Universitas Pelita Harapan (SoD UPH) has officially been licensed to be a National Center for Competency Testing for film and animation by Indonesian Professional Board of Certification (PBC) and Ainaki Professional Certification Institution (PCI) on January 20, 2020.

“To bear this license, we have to meet a certain standard. We need to have a complete lab facility that meet the standard of Indonesian animation industry including computer specification to run a certain animation software that is commonly used in the industry and other animation work, a sufficient amount and quality of tables and chairs, spacious room, and certified lecturers. In this case, the lecturers of UPH Visual Communication Design have also been certified as Animation Competency Testing Assessors,” said Alfiansyah Zulkarnain, S.Sn., M.Ds., Head of UPH Visual Communication Design Department.

The certification was handed directly by Animation Professional Certification Institution under Indonesia Animation Industry Association (AINAKI). The institution aims to improve the quality and market of Indonesian animation content for it to dominate the local market and penetrate the international market. This certification was given upon the supervision of the National Professional Certification Board by the government.

“This proves DKV UPH’s commitment and quality to provide proficient development for its students in order to create globally competitive designers and animators,” Alfiansyah added.

A similar statement was also given by the Dean of Dekan SoD UPH, Dr. Martin Katopo. According to him, this license is a recognition towards the facilities provided in SoD’s Animation and Film Lab as well as the competence of the lecturers, especially in the animation and cinematography concentration.

With the Animation NCCT license for UPH’s Animation lab, the Animation’s major curriculum of kurikulum konsentrasi Animasi dalam Prodi DKV UPH akan bersinergi dengan standar kompetensi Industri Animasi Indonesia. Alfian also ensures that the DKV UPH graduates are able to obtain this kind of certification as their asset to start working in the animation industry, and be able to compete locally and globally.

Moreover, Martin Katopo also hopes that this license will expand the cooperation between the Animation and Film lab with alumni and National Animation and Film Industry. In the future, we plan to increase our certification target to an international level as well as an international partnership for SoD Animation and Film Lab.
