INDONESIA FOOD DEVELOPMENT INSPECT

This seminar was able to be presented because of the cooperation from three organizations, namely Gabungan Pengusaha Makananan dan Minuman Indonesia (GAPMMI), FOODREVIEW INDONESIA, and SEAFAST Center IPB.

?Prediction? suddenly being a magic word for mass media in many sector when new year comes, including business. It is not mean that we tried to know our fortune in one sector, but to inspect development the sector itself.

On January 15,? Universitas Pelita Harapan was a host of seminar with theme :?Outlook Industri Pangan 2009: Challenge and Opportunities?. This? seminar was able to be presented because of the cooperation from three organizations, namely Gabungan Pengusaha Makananan dan Minuman Indonesia (GAPMMI), FOODREVIEW INDONESIA, and SEAFAST Center IPB.

Seminar was opened by Rektor of Universitas Pelita Harapan, Dr (Hon) Jonathan L Parapak, MEng.Sc.

Briefly, he said that food and beverage were the basic materials, which were always needed and developed. UPH itself has established Food Technology Faculty since 1995, as a respond to the dynamics of foods and beverage. Focusing on the food necessity and development, and following at the food situation, Food Technology Faculty Universitas Pelita contributed a huge support to this seminar.

Minister of Trade RI, Dr. Mari Elka Pangestu was a special guest who attended the seminar and participated as a keynote and presented Indonesia Food Development in government view. Minister attending on seminar proof that it is important to inspect Indonesia Food Development wholly from many aspects, as a contribution for every respectful sides.

Seminar attended with a hundred of food business executives and academics. Seminar continued with discuss session with a lot of food experts. The speakers were: Dr Purwiyatno Hariyadi (Direktur SEAFAST Center, IPB), Dr.George Burdock (President Burdock Group Consultant, USA) with Emerging Technology and Issues in Food industry, David Knight (British Chambers of Commerce) with Prospect and Trend of Global Food Bussiness, Yongki Surya Susilo (Nielsen Indonesia) with Prospect and Trend of Food Bussiness, Dr Boenyamin Setiawan (Founder Kalbe Group) with The Role of Food Science and Technology Education for the Development of Food Industry in Indonesia, Prof.Dr.C Hanny Wijaya (Guru Besar Tetap IPB), Syahlan Siregar (PT Nestle Indonesia) with Food Bussiness in Indonesia: Multinational Corporation Point of View, dan Dr Bambang Purwantara (SEAMEO BIOTROP/IndoBIC) with Potential Application of Biotechnology in Food Industry.
