?Success is when a person is able to do the best at his job while enjoying the job,? says John Ng, PhD in his seminar entitled DIM SUM LEADERSHIP at Pelita Harapan University on February 13. The seminar was a join project between Times Bookstore Indonesia and the Johannes Oentoro Library.
The seminar was divided into two sessions. The first session discussed a topic titled ?Temptation are All Around: Does Character Matter?? and was attended by executives, while the second session entitled ?Money Career: Can We Have Both?? was attended by teachers and students.
Beginning his presentation, Ng explained the meaning of leadership and possible challenges in executing role as a leader. He then carried on by giving some tips to overcome those challenges, which are also written in the eighth and ninth chapter of his book.
The second session of his seminar was attended by hundreds of students. Ng gave his tips on how to reach optimum work result. In his opinion, an individual should in the first place enjoy his work.
?This is the secret of success in terms of not only work and money, but also self-satisfaction ? this is what motivates people to work optimally,? says Ng.
His book, entitled the same as the seminar?s, discusses leadership and is written based on the fact that the world nowadays is longing for a good leadership figure. Through the book, he is willing to help the readers to become great leaders and motivate them to look for jobs they would work on wholeheartedly.
Just as interesting as the title of this book, the contents are delightful to read and easy to understand. ?The book does not take a long time to read and it is easy to understand. You can enjoy the book with tea and a cup of cake in the afternoon,? says Ng.
This seminar has attracted many UPH students and staffs. Lots of questions were given during the question session, signifying the participants? curiosity. It also proves that the students have already realized the importance of choosing and possessing the character of a leader.
This seminar is inline with UPH?s vision to be part of global education best practices, preparing its students to become professionals and developing their mentality and personality.
