UPH School of Nursing held a seminar to discuss trans-cultural issues with a case study the US ?Indonesian bilateral relations. This seminar was based on the uniqueness of nursing professions in terms of interactions with various people from various backgrounds including cultural backgrounds. Therefore, professional nurses are required to give an optimal mode of health care delivery that involves the implementation of nursing approaches needed to provide culturally appropriate care (Leininger, 1991). This type of nursing care incorporates individuals? cultural values, beliefs, and practices including sensitivity to the environment from which the individual comes and to which the individual may ultimately return. (Leininger, 1985)

To raise the awareness of trans-cultural issues, UPH School of Nursing together with the Indonesian ? American Friendship Association (Perhimpunan Persahabatan Indonesia Amerika) and US Embassy in Jakarta, co-hosted a two-hour panel discussion, on  Thursday, March 11, 2010. The seminar was attended by students of UPH School of Nursing, students from other departments of UPH, and guests from outside UPH (e.g. Sekolah Pelita Harapan, and other schools of nursing).
