IBM has been in Indonesia since 1937, and during these 73 years they still survive. The key is only one, that is, competitiveness. “Competitiveness is very important in the business world, especially in commodity business such as IBM, in which getting a replacement for something is an easy thing to do. When someone doesn?t like IBM laptop anymore, he or she would just easily buy another one from a different brand name,” said President Director of IBM Indonesia ? Suryo Suwigno.

Suryo emphasized that the outside world is so competitive. “We must be able to adjust to the world with high performance, or else we loose in the competition,” as he was motivating the Business School students who attended this event.

IBM itself is now more concern with the B2B (Business to Business), where its products are designated for corporate use, rather than personal use. Thus, the important point in IBM’s business is in its competitive effort to be compatible with other brands. “For example, your if server is from IBM, the printers and the monitors can be from other brands,” said Suryo.

Dean of UPH Business School ? Roy Sembel said, the importance of sharing knowledge from large companies like IBM as one form of the holistic learning. “In class, students study the theories. This kind of event is good for bridging theory and practice, so that students are familiar with the real business world,” said Roy Sembel in his speech. (cyn)
