International Relations debate team of UPH succeeded in becoming the first champion in the 2010 Humanitarian Law Debating Competition at national level.

International Relations debate team of Universitas Pelita Harapan succeeded in becoming the first champion in the 2010 Humanitarian Law Debating Competition at national level. The competition was organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at Universitas Riau, May 1-2, 2010.
| “Last year this kind of competition was held in In this time debate competition, the system used was Australation (Austros) Parliament, a combination of Australian and Asian Parliament system. “The structure was the same. Each speaker was given eight minutes with no interruption, and followed by replied speech,” explained Olivia Husli Basrin (International Relations class of 2006). The overall time was longer than other systems. |

Although this competition was in English, it was not an obstacle for them. “The important thing is the mastery of the material, because if we don?t master the material, at the time of presentation we could stammer. We didn?t have any problems with the language,” said Jason Robert (International Relations class of 2009).

They prepared themselves for this competition for about a month. “Every week we met twice for trainings. We brainstormed, arranged arguments, and deepened the humanitarian law ? what it meant, why was it important, what were the applications, and what were the latest examples,” said Olivia.
